Hey All,
I just got my new Z80 up and running and I am already experiencing the problems I feared in going with Zune but I'm hoping I can get help to make this as painless as possible. I've read through a lot of this but I have to admit I'm not adept and experienced enough to really get it and benefit from the advice. I've spent many hours organizing everything in My Music and in WMP11 thinking that when I synched to my Zune (another MS product) that it would just transfer without changes or problems and is one of the reasons I went with everything MS. So Zune has added music files from God knows where (not from my library), separated a lot of the folders that were all together on my pc. For example, on my pc I had a folder with five different albums and mixes I put together from separate tracks from the same artist, but on the Zune it lists everything separately and the compilation folders I put together are now disjointed now making navigation a big hassle. I have the same problem with web dowloaded files going to Various Artists and Soundtracks. With my previous DAP, there was no proprietary sofware involved and I could just drag and drop to the player and it would show just the same. So the question now is what is the best advice to handle this? Do I use a third party app and if so, do I dump the Zune software and/or WMP11 totally? Use together? I will prolly have to do some tag editing along the way. I'm trying to simply replicate on my Zune what I have in My Music...preferably Genre/Artist/Album/Trac. This all seems so complicated and unecessary like "why do things the easy way when you can do them the hard way?". Thanks! |

First of all, you will need the Zune Software to sync the device.
See this tutorial on how to tag your Zune music.

I am pretty sure you will need to tag your media in a way the Zune can understand. Just try it with the five different albums you mentioned. Be sure to run the media reset tool after updating tags.

What is the mp3 tag editing software of choice? Has anyone done a poll on Zuneboards for best media player, tag editing software, etc. for Zune? I would like to see what the most popular apps are and why people are using them and what better place than here?

I got Mp3 tag downloaded but there is a problem locating my music files for editing. I had everything in Music (Vista) and WMP11 originally, then after downloading the Zune software it seems to have hijacked WMP. When trying to edit the tags, it seems that some of the files are in Zune software and some not. Can someone please explain to me what's going on? I want my music in one place only to manage easily. If I use something like Media Monkey, does this mean that I don't use the Zune software or WMP? If so, how do I safely get everything off on the Zune and the Zune software to start clean?

In trying to use Mp3tag, I realize that I'm in over my head. It assumes that you know enough to be able to follow the steps. I'm not even sure what it is exactly I need to do. As I mentioned I'm trying to get my Zune to display like WMP11 so I can find and manage everything easily. Is it the extensions I'm trying to change? Some of them are probably messed up from transferring here and there but I don't know what I should be changing it to.
The other thing as I mentioned is being able to take a complilation album I've put together my an artist made up of several albums so that it displays as the compilation and not all the different albums. How do I do that with tag editing? Is it the same thing for Various Artists? Thanks! |
