Default Zune Software and CPU Usage

Searched this forum, but couldn't find an answer.

I've owned my Zune for about 2 weeks now and have been somewhat lukewarm on the Zune Software. It works fine for what I need, but I'm starting to get the problem of the software eating up all my CPU. I seem to remember it not being as such at first, but now it's making my computer run at 100% CPU. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software, but that hasn't worked. Anybody have any answers?

Thanks all!

There is no fix to it. That's one of the MANY reasons everyone hates it. It takes up all your memory.

You could try going to Settings > Display > Disable Video Enhancement. As far as I've seen, it hasn't changed my software AT ALL. That might be it. If not, there's nothing else we can do. The software sucks.

Yeah I tried that, but saw no improvement. I'm now trying to use zalternator with Winamp, but that keeps crashing. Will try WMP. With either Winamp or WMP, will this allow me to control my podcasts?

Thanks again.

Maybe I need more computing power...

I did a clean re-install less than a month ago. Complete format of drive and installation of windows and all software. Computer had been running a little funny, but has been zooming ever since. I have programs such as Diskkeeper Pro and Tune-Up Utilities to optimize performance.

I did get zalternator to work with WMP, but cannot with Winamp. Winamp will sync for awhile saying it's loading my Zune and as soon as it does, it crashes and wants to connect to drwin.exe.

I don't mind using WMP but I prefer Winamp. So I can only use Zune software for podcasting? Sorry for multiple questions in one post, but I really do appreciate you responding.

Maybe I answered my own question here:

Since I remembered a time when the Zune Software actually ran well...I thought about what changed between then and now. The only thing that came to mind was that I had added about 5 more podcasts to my collection (I had about 9 podcasts I was subscribed to). I removed a few and now I'm down to 5 podcasts that I'm subscribed to. Guess what? Zune software isn't eating up my CPU anymore. I'd like to be subscribed to more (maybe I'll try adding some and see if that's what happens again) because that's pretty weak that the software does that. I'll post again and let you know the results.

It's most likely because your videos are converting. Video conversion takes 100% CPU for me. In your task manager (control alt delete), is Zune.exe or ZuneEnc.exe taking up your CPU?

It might be bad, but from what I've seen it's no worse than any other music software.

well. it's not the greatest, but i do like using my zune for podcasts. not much other choice then to use zune software at this point. as long as it's not eating my cpu, i'm down with using it.

I feel for you. I love the Zune but the software is abhorent! I am a software developer by trade and I use Microsoft products (VB.NET and ASP.NET) to develop custom client solutions . In my career, I've seen wonderful solutions developed with Microsoft products. Zune software, Microsoft's Own Black Sheep, doesn't even crack the surface of some of the absolute worst software I've seen developed using Microsoft tools! I've owned my Zune for 5 days and am thinking about taking it back ONLY because of the software! The hardware rocks, (minus the fact that it doesn't hold my song selection/position when it turns off and I want to return to said same position later)!
