Default [SOLVED] Installing cleanly Zune 2.0 software -- update problems

Hi everyone,

I have problems with the Zune software 2.X which I never had with the old 1.X software. I have several issues but one at a time. I will ask for anyone’s kind help or suggestion for this issue in this post.

My system is the following –

I have a Dell Latitude D820 with Windows XP SP2. I have 4 gigs of RAM. As far as I know Windows is up to date as far as XP SP2.

My Zune is a 30 gigabyte device with the latest firmware 2.4.

My main problem is getting what I would call a clean installation of the zune 2.0 software. When I try to install with the Zune.net website and download the file. I invoke the file and immediately it stops and says I do not have required updates.

“SYSTEM UPDATES REQUIRED”
Zune software can’t continue until you’ve installed one or more required updates. Windows update must be updated to run this program
go.microsoft/fwlink/?LinkID=101231[/url]

It then gives a small description to go to a windows website for help but I went there and it was not helpful.

I don’t understand why it won’t let me proceed further. My firmware is up to date on the device and everything should go forward and allow the software to install?

I have only been able to install the software using a download of a Package but that didn’t seem to give me a clean of fully functional installation of the software. It was buggy and would crash periodically. I then went to the Superior Zune Software Installation which I found on one of the posts. That seems to give me a more clean installation but the software still has some problems in not functioning 100 percent.

1) It won’t play any media. It just opens a song and then nothing happens.
2) It doesn’t read all of the playlists I have on the device. I have 169 and it says I have 125.

That being said, I have not mentioned the mixed album art and mixed up song problem or the fact that the software has sometimes pulled music off my device and I have had to put it back on.

In short, it is frustrating. If anyone of you can help me I would be very grateful. What I would really hope to achieve is to be able to get a clean installation of the software through the normal software installation.

P.S I have used unzoone and tried to reinstall on various occasions. My biggest frustration is the message – “SYSTEM UPDATES REQUIRED”.... etc.

I would appreciate your guidance and suggestions.

Thanks,

Pollito

Update your Windows. If that doesn't work, manually download the update from Microsoft.com

Try running UnZoone again, then installing with SZIP2, then running windows update.

Thanks all for your quick replies.

I will try to update windows and let you know if it works.

Thanks again,

Pollito

Okay.. Thanks again everyone. I updated Windows and it solved that problem.

The software installs cleanly from the regular installation file. I unzooned first also.

Thanks again.
