Does anyone here know if there is a way to get the Zune to recognize files stored on your computer as podcasts? I really don't like the clutter of the video screen, and wanted to make fake podcasts to store videos in (One podcast for Heroes, one for Dexter etc.)
So far I've tried making my own folder in the Zune's podcast section and putting the files in a legitimate podcast folder, but no luck.
Spread the rep. If someone has helped you or they really deserve it or did a good job on something, click the button under their name. Or if you are using the new skin click the button in the top right hand corner of their post.
Yeah, I thought that would work too but it doesn't.
If you take a look at the actual podcasts they actually don't have any genre data contained in them.
I also tried changing the filename to something from a real podcast and then overwriting the file, but it looks like the zune software refuses to sync it if the size of the file is different from the original.
Thats weird, have you tried doing a hard reset, then trying it?

What do you mean by hard reset? Like resetting my zune?
I think its got something to do with the way people were using the changing the genre to podcast and using it to bypass the 3-play rule on shared music.
Since when I use the renaming trick the zune program still gives the original size I think either one of two things is happening:
A. The program cross checks the size of the actual file with how big it's supposed to be
Or B. The program just tries to sync 15 megabytes or however big the original podcast was.
If I have the time later I'll try to set up a fake podcast feed in WMP11 so I can use the Zalternator trick to sync it.
i think what they're trying to do is put their videos in the podcast section
i just did it
i got my fresh prince of bel-air episodes in the podcast section
this is how to do it
videos must be in wmv format
copy the files into another folder and let the podcast moniter that folder
first open zmeta
open up the files u want to be a podcast
in zmeta go the genre and type Podcast
close files
now to add a title series, open up tigotago
go the files and in album name, type the series title
go to podcast and it should show up
sync them and now they r podcast
hope this helps
this isn't garunteed to work, it did for me though
good luck
It said something about mp4 tags not sticking using zMeta, so I'm guessing that's what happened. So does this mean I have to use WMV if I want to use this podcast trick?

Just thought I'd throw out another idea while we're at it. If you don't like having an unknown podcast or not being able to convert to mp4 to use this organization system it might work.
First you need to have the hard drive hack installed, and maybe the Killzune executable to make things easier.
If you start a sync with the zune and quickly use ctrl alt delete to stop the process (or just the Killzune executable) the zune hard drive will be unlocked and you'll be able to copy stuff to it.
If you go inside the drive with explorer you should see a podcasts folder, so create your own folder with the name you want your fake podcast to have and copy your mp4 movies inside of it.
This should allow you to make your own podcast complete with the name in everything, but I don't have time to mess around with it because of school. If it works then it would be great if you let me know on this thread. Hope the above explanation made sense : p
