I did, but it's back to the same screen.

any other way i can get into the zune and update the device firmware?

Yes there is, but which firmware do you want? The old 1.4 (used with the black software) or the new 2.3 (used with the white software)?

Then they already updated it. You have to get the white software. And the new firmware works better to me. Anyway http://www.zune.net/en-us/products/z...e/download.htm update the software then the firmware.

only option available was save, but i might have downloaded and ran it a while ago too.

Well what happened when you ran it? A brown box should come up to update the software.

brown box came up, said checking for updates, then it said the latest was already downloaded

Try uninstalling with Un-zoone. Then reinstall it from the site.

I did, but that version doesn't scan for the device.

it doesn't matter which frameware, but if you can tell me how to get that screen off the zune.

You got the new software, good. Now, what happens when you connect it? Does your zune show "connected" on the screen.

Go to device> settings> update.
