How long does it take to convert DVR-MS?

The new Zune software can convert dvr-ms files and sync it to your Zune, but how long does it take everyone? When I try it takes hours to sync a 2-3 hour file to my Zune 80. It seems like it would be faster using a 3rd party conversion tool.

What's everyone else's experience? Does anyone have any advice to make things go faster?

Most likely the full length of the video you are converting.

It might be slightly faster using third party software, but I don't think that's a format many converters accept

In the past I've used a specific 3rd party software to convert my dvr-ms files to Zune format. The specific application name escapes me here at work. When I get home, I'll write back.

If my memory is failing me, I could have sworn that this program converted shows a lot faster. I haven't used it in awhile mainly because I was naive in thinking that a Microsoft product would do a better job at converting a Microsoft video format. I used this program during the days when I just had a Zune 30. Now that I have a Zune 80, I wonder if it can convert the video so it's not as compressed as the Zune 80 can handle higher quality videos.

I'll find out this weekend. My wife is going on a business trip so I'll use the software to convert a few TV programs and see if it's faster. I'll let you all know.

the software I had used is ZuneTVWatcher

I have version 2.6 of the software and it's now up to 2.9, so I'm insterested in trying out the new version. It's been awhile since I checked out the site, but I just saw a very needed tool for the Zune (zEditor) also on this site. It allows you to modify the metadata of videos so you can make sure a WMV file is not just placed under the "All Videos" Category, but can be placed under the "TV Shows" category. I can't imagine why the current Zune software doesn't natively do this.

Well, I'm off to convert some shows for my honey.

I've read elsewhere where someone was able to convert a 2.5 hour with the Zune software in an hour. That hasn't been my experience. It usually takes about 4 hours for me.

But with this software an hour program took me 15-30 minutes.
