well, everything worked fine until I tried to install the new software update.
1. First try within the software "failed" !
2. Used "UnZoone" to remove everything
3. Rebooted
4. Run Microsoft Update
5. Run the Zune 2.3 install again, "Failed" !!!
Used UnZoone again and tried the install, but everything fails.
had a similar problem my zune was working great through all the updates til 2.3. Now I get zune encountered a problem and must close. I can't open the software without getting this message. Everything was working fine yesterday now today I upgrade when asked to and I get that must close message. I tried to reinstall 2.3 and even use system restore but same errors. I am running XP sp2 no problems til now!!! Help if you can thanks ahead!!!
Not sure if this will work for you but as I stated above I was getting encountered error message and this helped me...
As a few suggested, I downloaded windows install cleanup and stripped away the old software...then I did the same to .NET Framework 2.0 and then reinstalled Framework directly from microsoft not through the update site. Afterwards I installed the full 2.3 software directly from zune.net and it powered up with no encountered error message. I had to dump my files off the zune as the software was seeing me as a guest and didn't want double. Sync took alittle longer than usual but she's up n running!!!
well, I did the suggested re-install of .NET Framework 2.0 SP1 as well as .NET Framework 3.5 ( as suggested on the MS web site ). I also downloaded and installed the MS ZunePack ( 170MB ) which includes all possible updates of programs needed by the Zune 2.3 Software.
It did not change anything, The Zune 2.3 Software still refuses to install. The install goes to 100% completed then it rolls back and uninstalls everything again !! Very strange since I didn't change anything on my computer at all and everything was working fine !!
Not sure what to do next, maybe calling MS-Zune for help.
well, I haven't tried SZIP yet and UnZoon really doesn't give me right now what I need. I can uninstall 2.1 completely, but even if everything is removed, the new 2.3 won't install. I had to do a Ghost Restore in order to get 2.1 back.
I was with Zune support on the phone for about 2 hours, then they escalated my call to level 2 support, another 90 minutes or so and the level 2 support said something with my .NET Framework is wron and refered me to WinXP Support. Spending about a total of 3 hours with WinXP on the phone, .NET Framework was completely removed, then re-installed, updated and tested. Everything with .NET was o.k. now but the Zune 2.3 Software still didn't want to install. The tech. support guy tried a few more things and tricks with me but nothing helped. Finally he made the decision to escalate my call to the "MS Research Team" and gave me an appointment with them for Monday morning. So we'll see if that helped.
I'd like to post a pic of the install error I get but I have troubles posting a picture. How do I use the "Insert Picture Icon" It doesn't do anything. Also Copy/Paste doesnt work. D I Z Z Y H H E E L L P P !!!! LOL LOL

o.k., to understand that right with the image, your're saying I have to upload the image to my domain and then include the followowing link in my message :

Would this syntax be correct ??? But what's the "Insert Picture Icon" above the message window for ?

Ahhh, thanks. Now everything is clear. I do not get anything while clicking the "Insert Picture Icon". Something must preventing the scrip ( I assume it's Java ) from running since when I click the icon I get an "Error on Page". I already went through all my settings, but still noting. I'll try tomorrow to post the picture of the Zune 2.3 Install error manually.
the only option in IE7 that is related to Java is a checkbox for Sun "Use Java 1.6.0 (applets) ! I know there is a difference between applets and script, but I don't see any options on how to enable/disable "script". Hmmm strange.
Thanks for the suggestion ! LOL But I am a IE fan !! LOL
In any case, back to the main issue !!!!
MS Research Team called me back ( yes, on a Sunday morning ) and was able within 2 minutes to help and get the new 2.3 Zune Software installed.
So far the issue seems to be a "Rollback" problem after a error, even an easy one, occurs. But there are still other problems which need to be fixed. After disabling the "Rollback" in the registry, the 2.3 Software installed, but now if I check for software updates ( within the Zune Software or via Microsoft Update ) it stills tells me there is an update available. So the MS-Guy is calling me back on Tuesday to fix this problem. ( Hopeflly )
well, initially the 2.3 install program failed due to two errors related to "install driver & remove driver' ! After an error occured, the install program rolled back and I still had the old version.
So now, MS Research Support added a registry key to disable the roll back ! Now the software is installed and weverything is working, except two issues :
1. After every reboot, the "Found New Hardware Wizard" is coming up, telling me about a "Zune Bus Root Bus Enumerator" it found. This error comes at EVERY restart, even if the "Zune Bus Root Bus Enumerator" service is already installed and working.
2. Within the Zune Software, it still tells me there is a new update available, even if it is already installed. Same happen with Microsoft Update, it still shows the 2.3 Software as an update to install.
Tomorrow, 9:30am MST MS Research Support will call again and hopefully solve the two remaining problems.
After that, I'll put a little list with exact steps together and post it.
Any update on this? I am having the exact same problem as #1 (the Zune Bus Root Bus Enumerator found new hardware wizard keeps popping up). I had # 2 as well but I used this fix to get rid of it: 13459-zune-bus-root-enumerator.html (can't post links).
