Hi there,
not sure anymore what exactly is going on, but it seems like the "Zune Level 2 Supprt" did something with my permissions. XP-Research-Team is trying right now to fix it. I am still in contact with them, bt every call takes about 3 hours or more and I don't have alwas the time to spend. The status so far is :
- Zune Software 2.3 can be uninstalled
- Zune Sofware 2.1 as well as 2.3 will fail to install ( Ghost image restor necessary )
- Zune Software 2.3 is running and working fine with all Zune devices, but wireless sync is not possible.
- Zune 2.3 Software install fails with the error "cannot start ZuneNetworkSvr. Make sure you have permission to install System Services" !!!!
- Within the Zune 2.3 Software, "SETTINGS / Check for Updates", it still tells me there is an update available, even if the 2.3 software is already on the system.
- Also, Microsoft Update tells me there is a new Zune 2.3 Software available.
All together, it's a TOTAL mess right now, and the real problems started when the Zune Support messed around resetting system permissions.
I might have to try the new UnZoone as well as the SZIP again, even if I have to do a Ghost restore if it doesn't work.
Does anyone has the links to the new UnZoone and SZIP ????
Thanks.

O.K., FINALLY !!!!! Here are the three issues to fix the Zune 2.3 Install errors !
ALL the written stuff below was done in WinXP Pro SP2 and all UPD's !!!
1. Setup Failed Error :
" Operation "InstallDriver" has finished with result 0x80070643 "
" Operation "RemoveDriver" has finished with result 0x80004005
SOLUTION : Go to C:Windows\System32\Drivers and look for a file called : wdf01000.sys !!! Rename or Delete this file.
2. Setup Failed Error :
"Service 'Zune Network Sharing Service' (ZunenetworkSvc) could not be installed. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to install system services. Error code : 0x80070643
SOLUTION : Go to START / RUN and type : services.msc Once the Services Window Is open, go to the bottom, there are either 2 or 3 Zune related services. Make sure they are all set to "automatic" ! Now right click on the "Zune Network Sharing Service" and select "Properties" !!! Click the "Log On" tab and make sure it is set to : "This Account" then click "Browse", then "Advanced", then "Find Now" and select "NETWORK SERVICE" ! OK everything and if you are asked for a password, put your Administrator password in it !
3. Zune Bus Root Bus Enumerator error ( I believe this error only occurs if someone uses a cradle ):
Hardware Wizard constantly finds the Zune Bus Enumerator
SOLUTION : Disconnect your cradle. Go to Device Manager, scroll down to "System Devices" and uninstall all "Unknown Devices" as well as all "Zune Bus..xxx...Enumerators". Restart your computer, plug in your cradle and you should be fine !
Hope this helps some other folks.

In any case, back to the main issue !!!!
MS Research Team called me back ( yes, on a Sunday morning ) and was able within 2 minutes to help and get the new 2.3 Zune Software installed.
So far the issue seems to be a "Rollback" problem after a error, even an easy one, occurs. But there are still other problems which need to be fixed. After disabling the "Rollback" in the registry, the 2.3 Software installed, but now if I check for software updates ( within the Zune Software or via Microsoft Update ) it stills tells me there is an update available. So the MS-Guy is calling me back on Tuesday to fix this problem. ( Hopeflly )
We'll see how everything works then...........

What is the exact registry key for this? Thanks.

Hi There !
Registry Disable Rollback :
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Win dows\Installer
Add new DWORD Value : DisableRollback and set it to 1
Use at your own risk and don't forget to delete the entry once you got it working. But you should not need to you this entry.
What is your exact problem ???

It's the desktop stand with a connector where you put your Zune in to connect to your computer, rather then just connecting the USB cable. With the "cradle" you can also use a remote control to navigate your Zune or conncet you Zune ( 80GB ) via A/V connectors to your TV or Stero System.

Try that : Go to START / RUN and type : services.msc and hit ENTER Once the services window is up, scroll down to the Zune Bus Enumerator and double click to open the properties. On the GENERAL Tab set it to "Automatic" on the LOG ON Tab make sure "Local System Account" and "Allow Service to interact....." are checked. Last, check in Device Manager under Universal Serial Bus Controllers for any "unknown devices" and remove ( Uninstall ) them all. Then restart and see if you still get the error.
There are differen threads here on the board on how to fix the problem. Check them out too.........
Hope this helps.

Another fix...
ugh, can't post the link, apparently
odetocode.com/Blogs/scott
/archive/2008/01/27/11695.aspx
but it looks like Zune requires Windows firewall service to be started. it doesnt matter if you use it or not, but have it running. worked great for me.
running vista, zune 2.3, and a 30g zune.
Hope this helps...
