Zune software won't recognize zune

My son and daughter both got 2nd hand Zunes from their uncle w/no cord, instruction manual or software. I bought a cord and have started charging them (I'm assuming it's working because there's a little flashing lightning bolt on the battery on the zune screen).

I downloaded the software from zune.net and it's working fine, however, it keeps telling me that I need to connect a device before I can start the sync. I have tried both Zunes and get the same thing. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software.

Any help?

Try uninstalling with UnZoone and reinstalling with SZIP2.
