I'm sorry if this has been posted before - I did not know how to condense the problem into a searchable string.
I use the Zune 2 primarily as a video player and as such I have about ~400 video files on it. The software is 2.1.888, the firmware is 2.3, and I am using Windows XP. Recently I wanted to fix all the aspect ratios and sync issues on my videos, so I began doing that with a third-party conversion program. The Zune is duplicating many of my files as a result. I've tried deleting the duplicates from my Zune and resyncing them, which works for most of the files, but not all - some duplicates still remain despite deleting them from the Zune. Some of the files APPEAR to be duplicates in my Zune, but are actually other files have the same filename/thumbnail as another file in my Zune. One file does not even show a filename and is a blank line with a thumbnail on the Zune. When I tried to rectify the problem by using MS Reset Tool (Which reset my library), I noticed from the video count that 23 files that were missing from my library. It's hard to try to find those files, but the interface wouldn't let me put them back in my library once I had. These files were working perfectly on my Zune before all this madness occurred, and now I can't even put them in my library. I tried reinstalling the software, no effect. The library video count and the Zune video count also have different numbers... and try as I might, I cannot make them equal through syncing. I can still put files on the Zune, but the files already in the library seem to want to sync at their own leisure, or not at all. I used to view syncing as a necessary evil (As necessary as whatever idiots made this interface deemed), but now I'm positive the whole Zune interface was sent from God to test me. The last time I tried to use the regedit hacks for the 30gig Zune to make it function like a mobile hard drive, I ended up unable to sync any files. This time I'm using the software and not only will it not let me drag and drop files onto my Zune, but it turns syncing into a painful, mystifying nightmare. Does anyone know what problems I'm having and why? Please help. Last edited by Chaynsaw : 01-05-2008 at 07:41 AM. |

Do you have a backup of your zunes content on your pc? If so follow this.
1. Uninstall your software using UnZoone, and reinstall with SZIP2. 2. Do hard reset to the zune device(deletes firmware+content). 3. Run the media reset tool. 4. Re-sync all content.

Doesn't work, still get the same errors. One video is incorrectly listed as a duplicate of another (EG, One video is Episode X.avi, another is Movie Y.avi, and Movie Y.avi is listed as Episode X.avi, though the thumbnail in the Zune interface reflects Movie Y's content, and if you click on properties in the Zune interface, you'll see Movie Y's original filename/location) and the same amount of videos are inexplicably not being listed in the collection. I've hard reset the entire device but have not started syncing files to it because the library issues have not been resolved.
I'm not sure I want to toothcomb through 400 files in my folders and compare them to the ones in my Zune library to see which ones are missing, but it looks as if I have no choice. The fact that the Zune is incorrectly naming some of the files even though their filename is intact/has not been changed only compounds my problems (What's that all about anyway?). By the way, it took me a bit of time to find out what the hard reset for the Zune 80 is. Perhaps it should be stickied in the Zune button combos thread: While you see the reboot screen, hold down back/left/play. There is actually a new problem now that I've uninstalled using UnZoone and installed the software using SZIP2... the Zune player won't play anything. |

I'd still use the Registry Hack. It's automated now
See: Removing Duplicates Here: http://www.zuneboards.com/forums/gen...re-issues.html
