Default Unusual TMP files ?

Hi,

has anyone noticed that after syncing either the Zune 80GB or the Zune 8GB that the Zune v2 Software places between 2,000 and 30,000 temporare files into the :

C:\Documents and Settings\user\Local Settings\Temp

folder. All of them have a .tmp extension and when trying to delete them it takes unusual long to delete. It's happen here on three different computers. The more .tmp files there are, the slower is the overal performance of the computer used. In my three cases, once I delete all the .tmp files the computers run fast again.

These temp. files do not even get removed after a restart !!!

Very strange and certainly a bug in the Zune 2 Softwae.

I notice that it ALWAYS places these .tmp files into the above folder, how many just depends how big the sync process is. If you transfer like 50GB, you can end up with over 30,000 .tmp file.

Check it out and I hope it's not only me or I would go insane that it is happen on all three of my computers !!!

Cheers

JCE

That is interesting. How big are these temporary files?

Hi Dizzy,

well, all these .tmp files show a size of 0KB ! The strange thing also is, that after selecting ( let's say ) about 1000 and hitting DEL, it takes a long, long time ( like 1 -5 Minutes, depending how many you've selected ) to delete them !! )

They usually only show, after a completed sync. If you only sync a couple of songs, there a only a few of these .tmp files, but if you sync a lot, there are thousands of them !!!

Cheers,

JCE

Crazy. I have yet to do a through sync with the new software so I can't see for myself. Maybe they're some type of log files.

Ohh, BTW, someone mentioned to me that "these" .tmp filse could also be in :

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Local Settings\Temp

Not only in the "user" folder, depending how the software was installed.

But "these" temp files are there, everytime yah sync...........

Well, I looked at ACE's resolution, but that doesn't work. I do run "Disk Cleanup" almost every day. As a matter of facts, I just did it. And yes, the Zune Option is checked as well as everything else. Before I hit the button to do the "cleanup", I looked into my :

C:\Documents and Settings\user\Local Settings\Temp

folder and there were about 10,768 temporary files, ALL of them with " 0KB " and they looked like : vaq25D4.tmp !

I did the cleanup, but THESE files did NOT get removed via the Disk Cleanup procedure, even if I made sure, that "Temporary Files" was checked.

These nasty, little bugger files always appear after a SYNC with the Zune device. The more you sync the more of these files you have.

Well guys, do a larger sync with your Zune ( preferable with a new 8GB or 80GB since I don't know if the 30GB has this behavior too ) and afterwards look into your "Temp" folder and let me ( us ) know if these files are there. Then do a cleanup and see if the files are still there.

Would be interesting to know.

Have you tried manually deleting them? I can't say if they're important or not but I'd guess not.

Well, they aren't important, it's just the huge amount of files, not even the size !! They usually appear when you sync and do conversions ! And deleting over 10,000 of these .tmp files ( even if they are 0KB ) doesn't go that quick either. Yes, of course I can delete them manually, but it's an annoyance !!

Oh well, maybe a little batch file who deletes everything and runs during night time solves the problem.
