Red face Wireless sync while *not* linked to PC?

Is it possible to sync wirelessly without being linked to the PC?

I ask because I finally was able to get the Zune software to not automatically delete content from my zune when removed from the software collection (having accomplished this by connecting always as a guest), but now it tells me that the Zune must be linked in order to sync via wireless.

Any way around this? Or alternately, any way to be linked but not have material automatically deleted from the Zune when it is removed from the software (besides going into settings and clicking "forget this device", etc.)?

Thanks!

Cool

You must initialy set up wireless sync by connecting you Zune and telling the computer and Zune to use your wireless network. There's no way around it since it is a required step. Once complete, however, you will never have to plug it in again if you have alternative ways of charging. Here's what you do:
  1. Open Zune Software
  2. Plug in your Zune Device
  3. Once the Zune is recognized, click Settings found at the upper right.
  4. Click devices at the upper left
  5. Near the left of the screen, you should see an option for Wireless Sync - click it.
  6. That menu will lead you through a series of steps to identify your wireless network and use it.
  7. Once complete, you won't ever need to plug it in again.

Hope that helps...

Unfortunately, I believe they are mutually exclusive. Automatic sync is a much touted feature of the Home PC. On the other hand, with as much freedom as we may have connecting as Guest, many of the "convience" type of features are disabled.

At this time, I have seen no way to wirelessly sync a Guest Zune and I really suspect that is by design.

How would it wirelessly sync anyway, not knowing what content to sync and what not to?

Right, perhaps I used the wrong words to describe what I'm trying to do...

I don't want to sync anything, per se... nor do I want any monitored folders or anything of the sort... I just want to be able to pull some folders into my collection, transfer them to my Zune, then remove them from collection.

I can do this with a wired connection as guest and it doesn't remove the material from my Zune when I remove it from collection (yay)...

I just can't seem do it wirelessly without first linking the Zune, which would in turn cause the items I transfer to be deleted from the Zune when I remove them from the collection... which is the behavior I don't want.

Guess I can't have my cake and eat it too eh?

It's a pain, but see the "Removing files from library but not Zune" fix

to me that just seems impossible with wireless...because with wireless something has to be automatic...maybe you could have one folder with one thing to sync automatically then have everything else not automatic...then when the zune syncs automatically i believe you could transfer stuff to it as long as its recognized in the software...i will try this with some spare time and let you know the results

edit: it doesnt work....i added a pic fine but then once its out of my collection it erased it...

really should just get a external hard drive and not make things complicated..lol

Wireless sync only works if you are linked to the PC. You cannot wireless sync as a guest. If you want to go wireless youŽll have to use the trick above to remove the items from your collection.

That's what I use

When you use the method, make sure you forget the device
