Have also tried all of above but still crash on start-up with no error message however the screen says.
The screen before disappearing mentions that my video hardware is not fully compatible(i have a 64 MB shared graphics OB chip- laptop) and there is a continue button...I can't press it as it crashes.
Seem so close after trying all the fixes and help earlier regarding DRM reset and using the software from Gregory as mentioned before. Really want this to work.
I am running Windows XP.
I have tried installing, and uninstalling the official Zune software.
I have used UnZoone to uninstall when reinstalling.
I have used SZIPv2 to install.
I have used the resetdrm.exe, and separately followed Microsoft's manual way of resetting it.
I have reinstalled at least 8 or 9 times now, and got nothing.
I click the icon, the process launches, and then fails. No error messages, no pop ups, nothing.
OMG, I just have to say Thank You a Million Times for this forum. I recently updated my Zune Software to version 2.5. It was crashing on startup everytime and nothing I tried fix the problem. I thought I was never going to fix it. Funny thing is my DRM folder is empty as I have no DRM'd music or movies on this PC. But this DRM store reset utility absolutely fixed the problems I was having.
Wow, thanks so much! I registered for this board just so I could thank you all for your help. I was having the exact same problem and the "resetdrm.exe" did the trick.

Same here. I've tried all of those methods, and the software STILL crashes.
This is getting really frustrating. I'd really like to use my Zune sometime before the end of the YEAR.
A few weeks back I posted a quickfix to bypass the "Zune has encountered an error and needs to close" and "Zune has stopped working" errors when you launch the software by running it compatibility mode for Windows 2000. Although this allowed you to start the program, it still bugged other things and the software still crashed when you sync'd podcasts, and would not allow you to visit the marketplace.
MS/The Zune Team and I have recently been working together and trying things and we have found a solution that works that lets you access everything without bugs, and works on all supported Zune operating systems.
Original post
1.) Turn-off the compatibility mode for Zune if you had it on. This is essential here in order to verify the effectiveness of this.
2.) Follow the steps in the following KB Article /929642ErrorThe Knowledge Base (KB) Article You Requested Is Currently Not Available message when you try to sign in to the Zune Marketplace or when you try to play content from the Zune Marketplace and although the KB article doesn't really mention this crash issue, it should address the problem. Please be sure to note the possible consequences regarding content licenses mentioned in there. Also in step (d) Internet Explorer should be running as Administrator.
3.) After successfully performing all steps in the KB, try to start Zune again (with compatibility mode turned off).
This completly fixed it for me and now I fianlly get to see what I was missing.
I'm having the error "Microsoft Zune has stopped working" and it wont let me put new song on my zune or anything. It all happened when I downloaded the 3.0 firmware. I tried to do every possible thing except for this. I'm running windows vista 32bit. Would this work for vista 32 bit?
I have reset the DRM (both manually through Microsoft's instruction, and through the resetdrm.exe), and have completley uninstalled Zune software from my comp, then called customer support, then did what they said (reinstalled with latest Zune package from Microsoft's site).
this **** still does not work.
Why doesen't Microsoft just create a patch or some **** and get this over with? what are they waiting for?
everything was fine till they ****ed it up with the last update or whatever.
