kaleigh, did your zune get recognized when you were installing the software? because mine didn't and i'm having the trouble you're having.

I have the same problem now that i've reformatted my zune. i was trying to get the unicode on but that doesn't work. now i'm stuck on step 2: "on your pc, open the zune software and restore the zune device firmware" ... i plug it into the the computer, usb 2, it reads the zune being in the usb, the software see the device, but i can't restore the software! this is what pops up when i plug it in and the software opens - "Update Unavailable [in big and bold words] Your device needs an update. To continue, make sure you're connected to the internet. If you're connected and the device doesn't update, please try again later." I've only tried again later 100 times and still the same error.

Can someone please help me? I knew I should've not messed with formatting it, but I really wanted to get unicode on, but now it's just a big mess. Thanks in advance!

maybe its time to invest in a new pc....
for basic computer use look for bundles... like at best buy and stuff...

or go online and customize one... and

LOOK FOR COUPONS!! if you purchase one through dell, hp, gate way. etc.

just type in dell coupons on yahoo and u will find some...
... i used a 350 dollar coupon for a dell a while back.... sweetest deal ever...

i don't think my problem has anything to do with the computer as i just had it working prior to formatting and now, just not being able to restore the software back onto the zune player

I'd try reinstalling Windows before buying a new computer...

My Zune comes up as a "portable device" in device manager, and the driver details have two things listed: wpdusb.sys and wudfrd.sys. the wpdusb.sys is digitally signed but the wudfrd.sys is not. The screen shows "connected" but the software says it isn't. Does this help anyone help me with this issue?

Well I gave up and called the zune company. They had no idea what was going on and put me on hold while they spoke to the manager. He had no idea either. So they said it was defected and are sending me a box to send it back to them...
