Software is installed up to date.
Problem starts when plug-in to usb port, it detects Zune (found new hardware) but shows found new hardware pop-up w/ cannot install this harware message: There was a problem installing this hardware "zune". An error occured during the installation of the device. The specified service does not exist as an installed service. And my only option is to click finish button. I did try re-installing software, called zune tech service, even 2nd level guy can not solve the issue. I think it may has to do w/ registry issues. I tried on my other PC and works just fine. (so it has to be something w/ my PC itself) I tried reinstalling the driver from hardware manager where zune appears w/ "!" mark. and the device status shows: This device is not configured correctly. (Code 1) To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver. Do I need to re-install my XP home ed.? (it is service pack 2) Please help!!! |

Hum. Driver issues are fairly hard to deal with.
Here's what I'd try (if you don't mind losing your content): Also note that if it doesn't work, your zune will be useless because it won't have firmware (so try at your own risk!). Press and hold the back+center+left buttons and the zune will delete everything it has on it, as well as the firmware. This should make the device look for an update. You may want to wait for someone with a less risky solution.

I had this problem.
I installed the new zune software. Then connect my 30 gb zune 1 and got the same error (with ontly finnish button). Do not click finish. At this time I went to device manager and the zune was in the list. I right clicked on the zune and click on properties. Click reinstall driver. Browsed to C:\Program Files\Zune\Drivers\ZuneBusEnum then installed. Now my zune is connected. hope that helps. |

This error is due to a service that gets uninstalled somehow. I found that installing Windows media player 11 reinstalls that service.
Look for my more detailed post in the thread titled " can't install error - service doesn't exist". ![]() |

************DO NOT DO THE FIRMWARE RESET***********
Just went through the exact same thing. Downloaded the XP SP2. My Zune software was gone. Got out the Z disc software to reinstall, downloaded the latest version, and poof--Gone! Spent crazy (stupid) amount of time researching the problem and did the firmware reset thing. WORST MOVE TO MAKE!!! DO NOT DO THIS!!! I just spent 109 minutes with a very polite customer rep. (One of the nicest reps I have ever had the pleasure of speaking with.) Uninstalled/downloaded/reinstalled like 6 times. Always the same result--No Driver. Because I did the firmware reset on the device, that is why the driver is not being installed. Result--I now have a box that is being sent to me that I will have to pack up my Z in, to be sent for repair. I may not get the same device back, or even the same color. I could handle a red, or white, (I have a black), but not a brown, and certainly not a pink (I'm a guy) Z. The turnaround time is 21 days. So--I am without a music box for one month. My only hope is that it is calendar days and not busines days. I can't even be mad anymore. I've been broken. If this had happened with the first 30 days of purchase, you bet I would have taken it back, but since it has been 4 months, I'm hosed. I wish I had seen Wally's post above before doing the firmware reset. Last edited by Stogiez : 07-29-2008 at 07:38 PM. Reason: Add more info |
