Hello
Ive had my Z30 for a few months now, and every once in a while it starts to act up. For example, for about 3 days, when I had shuffle all albums, it played a few songs, and then rebooted....This has happened a few more times since Ive had my Z30, even with all software and firmware updates(1.4/2.0).
I tried updating the software to 2.0 last night and was unable to getting error message 0x8007002. So i tried searching the MS support site, but there solutions did not work. My last resort was to uninstall the zune software all together. I did that and tried to install the original zune software from the disc, but was unable to do that as well. Now i have no way of accessing my zune, since I have no zune software. Has anyone else had this problem....my last resort now, is to reinstall windows (XP SP2 current updates)
Ill be back home later....thanks in advance for the help...see ya

Try this: Unplug it from the computer, Press & hold the back and up swithches. When screen goes black push and hold the back, left and ok at the same time (hard reset) this will wipe everything from your zune. Now follow on screen directions but, be sure you have a high speed connection when you do this. I had a dialup and had to go to a friend's house and install the Zune software and then do the firmware update. Other wise it would had been just an expenssive brick.
Thanks for your help
I forgot to put this message that I'm getting when the install fails"Installation media not found,
"the media for installation package "Watson" couldn't be found. It might be incomplete of corrupted. The system cannot find the file specified
error code 0x80070002
as for deleting everything in my zune, I'm not gonna do that because the problem is in the software not the hardware. (in reference to the zune software not being able to be installed) I haven't tried installing it on another computer.
I think i am having a similar problem, i go to update the software and it just sits at the "checking for updates" screen for a very long time before giving me an 0x80072efe error, i have never been able to download any updates from the internet for whatever reason, very frustrating and if i cant get it working i will sell my zune and get something less stupid to work with
worst case for me is going to be reinstalling windows.....im not worried about that to much, i don't have any critical data that ill loose cause i back up most things, but just a pain and inconvenience im gonna try a few more things today..
OK....I extracted the files from the latest update using winRAR to a floder on my desktop. I then went to packages and installed zunex86. BOOM! now I've got the new zune software but my Z30 isn't recognized at first. I close it and reopen the zune software and was able to update to 2.2. I updated and everything is now very very peachy....thanks for all the helps guys!
oh yeah...btw...i like the layout of the new software, but there are a few gripes so far
in the old software, you would be able to update album art by simply dragging and dropping, now you have to right click on the album, select update album art, and look for it.....also, i liked how i was able to sort by genre...i thought updates were supposed to make things easier...i know at zone-online theres a few posts about fixing those issues....just gotta be patient.
If you are on a network that uses WSUS for updates, you may receive the 0x80070002 error as well. To allow the installer to directly access Microsoft Update, I used these steps:
1. Start -> Run Regedit
2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Win dows\WindowsUpdate
3. Back up the key
4. Rename WUServer to WUServer.old and WUStatusServer to WUStatusServer.old
5. Rename the AU key below to AU.old
6. Restart the "Windows Update" service from Start -> Run ->services.msc
7. Restart setup
8. After setup completes, rename the keys in steps 4 & 5 above to their original values, restart the WU service
I too ran into the exact problem on a fresh install of Windows Vista SP1. It appears there may be two things to look into for a solution.
1. Check Windows Update after attempting an installation and resultant failure. It should find/install a Zune 2.3 update. I found it very necessary to reboot after this, even though it doesn't ask to do so.
2. I'm still investigating this - but it appears that there may be issues installing Zune 2.3 on systems with DEP (Data Execution Prevention) enabled. I'm not certain the best way to resolve, but I'm going to add this program as an exception and retry. I'll repost if this works.
So, here are the steps I took to solve this (your mileage may vary).
1. Downloaded Zune 2.3 installation from zune.net
2. Attempted install - failed with exact error described above.
3. Rebooted system - attempted second time - same failure.
4. Checked web for solution, most pointed to old/incorrect info for editing my registry (not helpful nor did it work).
5. On a whim, checked Windows Update - voila, an update was available for Zune 2.3 (which wasn't ever really installed AFAIKnew).
6. Installed update, reran installation, it worked, to a point, notice I didn't reboot yet.
7. Tried to run Zune - A failure and successive error code pointed to DEP, but after attempting to add Zune.exe to the DEP exception list I found it was already flagged (internally via Vista) to not allow execution of this program without DEP. Zune never really ran but instead exited early.
8. I finally rebooted and tried to run Zune. It gave me a cute, reassuring message that it was recovering (and not to worry).
9. Sure enough, it now works, and works well.
10. I must mention that this program works even better in Vista x64 (heck, it's about the only 64 bit software around) as it seems to handle my incredibly huge music library as if it were expected!
