Ok, I'm flustered... I've been trying to get the Zune software downloaded and it keeps erroring on me... It gives me an error stating:
Setup must stop because the required package 'Zune' didn't install.
Fatal error during installation.
Error code: 0x80070643


I've been on this forum for about 2 hours trying to find a thread that talks about this and have found a few, but the options either don't work, or I can't do them... for some reason or another I don't know! GRRR!!

Any help would be appreciated.

Have you tried using UnZoone? Are you installing from a root admin account? Have you been keeping up with Windows Update updates?

Tried the UnZoone... and reinstalling afterwards... still no luck. I did all the windows updates, and tried again, still same error...

I have Vista (32 not 64).... I'm logged in as administrator... so I'm at a standstill.

I figured it out (I think)... my laptop that I'm trying to get this working on is an old work laptop, and the license needs renewed from that... Going to have that done soon, and hopefully that will help things along!

So that didn't fix my problem... I still can't get it downloaded... grrrr... Here is a picture of the error I keep getting...



It installs to like 60-62 percent, then jumps to 96 percent - keeps trying and then gives me this error... any ideas?

OK.. so I just got my Zune less than a week ago and it's already driving me crazy. Don't get me wrong, I love it.. but as time goes by I get more and more problems. My main one being the "Unknown artist folder that shows up on my zune but not on the software, nor the collection. The worst part is that it takes completely random songs. I rip an actual cd (not a burned one) and the zune will tae 1 track from that album and put it under unknown artist. I have downloaded media collection reset tool. That helped in the sense that I was able to see those unknown songs in my collection. But I edited the info, put them back on the zune, and it still shows up under Unknown artist. I renamed ZuneStore.sdf to ZuneStore.sdf.old but I couldn't find CurrentDatabase_365.wmdb, even after searching my entire computer, including hidden folders. I rearranged everything under My music so that it's correctly labeled and under the same folders. I even tried unchecking the auto update metadata button. I'm so anal that I don't want these songs on my zune unless they're correctly labeled. Are there any other options?? Oh yeah... and the last time I updated it... one of my songs magically converted to asian characters...

Installation Fine but Blank Zune Window/Garbled Colors

Exit the Zune software

1) Start->Run->regedit
2) Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftZuneGeneralS ettings
3) Right click and click New->DWORD Value. Name it ReevaluateVideoSettings
4) Right click again and create a new DWORD Value. Name it UseGDI.
5) Press enter, then right click it again and click Modify
6) Change the Value Data to 1. It should be hexadecimal by default.

Does this refer to the monitor screen Zune software or the device itself?

I'm having an issue with the device itself. When i turn it on, it is blank or sometimes it shows with messy, very messy graphics.

Any idea on how i can fix this? If the above instructions are for the device, then it hasn't worked for me. I have the 80 gig Zune, which i bought back in June 2008.

It's driving me insane, please help!

Sounds like for the software. Try doing a firmware repair:
Connect the Zune
Go to Settings in the software
Click Device
Click Device Update on the left section
Click the Install Games button

If that fails, do a hard reset:
Hold Back-Up to reset the Zune
When you see the Zune logo:
-Hold Back-Center-Left on a Zune 30
-Hold Back-Center-Play on a Zune 4/8/16/80/120
Connect to the computer to reload the firmware and media

If that still doesn't work, give MS a call at 1-877-GET-ZUNE and try to get a warranty repair/replacement on it.

I have searched far and wide and cannot find the cause of this problem, or even anyone else that is suffering from this issue. I hope someone here can help.

I use my zune 30 for video as much as for music. My music library issues are pretty common and have not been too much of an issue. My video library issues are driving me insane though. I am just a very few days from smashing this damn thing with a hammer.

I have a Halo 3 Zune 30 running on Windows vista 32. the computer has two different profiles on it. The zune software sometimes does not shut down properly and I must enter the task manager to kill it. I use TGmpe pro(or what ever it is called) to convert videos to wmv suited for play on the zune. When videos are converted and added to the library they work great. I have about 200 videos and movies in my library.

My problem is that the videos start to go haywire for no reason. They play fine in the zune software, windows media player, etc. They are still in the folder where they were stored from the time they were converted and seem to be fine. In the zune video library the thumbnails eventually all turn to gray squares. All the information about each video looks fine. The thumbnails are just blank and when I try to sync them to my zune it freezes at some random low percentage like 16%.

This first began last fall. I uninstalled and reinstalled zune several times, deleted the videos from the library and let zune rediscover them, used the zune reset tool... nothing fixed it. I then used UnZoone and reinstalled zune and all was fixed. Last week it started again. If I take one of the wmv files that used to show up fine and reconvert it to the exact same format it shows in the library again and will sync. It is so weird. I really don't want to do UnZoone every 2 months.

I am assuming it has something to do with the tags on the files being corrupted somehow. I can't find a program like media monkey that will let me check or edit them though. I have even been exchanging emails with the guy that wrote UnZoone trying to figure it out. He's as lost and confused as I am.

Wireless Sync Only Goes To Connecting But Does Not Connect To PC
All i did to fix this problem was
Start> control panel> administrative tools> services
Zune Bus Enumerator is Started but u have to restat
Zune Network Sharing Service this was off for me i started it so if it is for u start it
Zune Wireless Configuration Service it was started but do not restart

My wireless sync has never worked. I get and error message after i find the network and try to connect to it. Why don't you restart , or in my case start the wireless configuration service. wont this allow me to set up a wirelessnetwork to sync to?

i found out im missing .dll files and have read some forums people keep saying to get them from a older zune software installtion but how do i do that id preffered if someone send me them or give me a link to where i can download the heres my list of what im missing

You have alot of great information about zune... where were you when I was pulling out my hair trying to figure it out.. lol.. now I have a new problem.. this morning my zune program stopped working. When I went to open it said error and asked to send error report. So I ran unzune and deleted it from system and reinstalled the software. Then the program didnt even open or do anything when I clicked the icon.. so I redid the unzune and reinstalled it and now I am getting an error 26887 where I am then redirected to microsoft website. But it is useless because it doesnt give me any options or any information on error. Just a blank screen with their name and a search box. Which brought me to here. Please...pleasse tell me you have some enlightening information on how I can fix this issue.

You need to go into the file where all the music is stored. Right click on the songs in the file on your pc not on zune software; and edit the properties. Name of artist song genre ect. The zune will automatically update that way. Make sure you hit save.

Settings top right ... device.. sync options.. scroll down to the section titled device options.. erase all content
It'll give you a msg to wait a few moments.
This will remove all content from your zune so you can resync
