OK so I was having the same song/album/and artist mix-up problems as others have been having. This is not that big of a problem since I don't think it is changing the ID3 tags (thank God). What I did was delete all of the albums out of my collection (make sure you do not delete your files along with it!!!). Go to Settings...Software....Collection...Deselect "Automatically update album art and media information." Then re-add your collection. Hope this helps!
I figured it was probably something that had to do with updating the album info. Glad you figured it out. I'll sticky this for awhile just so I can redirect here.

i manually selected that folder to add to my Collection, and nothing. zune software will play the files but not add them back to my list.
Under the collection section in the Zune software, click 'Restore files previously deleted from collection', and restart the Zune software. Be warned, since if your Zune is connected to your PC it may start to delete your songs from the Zune.
That will re-add your files, however it won't sort out your problem.
I'm also experiencing the problem, and when it happens to whole compilations, it really annoys me. For some reason, it's detecting some of my compilations fine, but on others it's not. I'll try and find out what makes certain albums so special.
edit: It doesn't seem to be tags causing this problem, so it might be a problem with the software itself. Hopefully an update will be released soon.

How do i do that without deleting the file? Details please. MANY thanks.
Selecting all of my albums in the Zune software and then pressing the delete key worked for me, and didn't erase my music.
I didn't get any popup window asking me if I wanted to remove from library or erase the actual files (like I used to get in the previous version of the software), so I assume that it just removes your songs from your library and not your computer.
This has been posted elsewhere, but I thought it's worth posting again to make sure you see it. I really like the new player, but of course I would not if it was displaying the wrong album art Smile [:)]
There's a file that contains metadata about your tracks. If you delete that while the client is not running then restart the client, it is rebuilt automatically. It does NOT delete your music, just the metadata. Here are the instructions. Please make a copy of the file before deleting it.
In XP Zune2 software stores it's database in the folders
XP C:Documents and Settings<User Name>Local SettingsApplication DataMicrosoftZune
Vista C:Users<User Name> Application DataLocalMicrosoftZune
* Exit Zune2 software
* Delete files in this folder
* Restart Zune2 software and it will rebuild your collection.
Let me know how it goes.

That didn't seem to help me, which makes me think it's a metadata problem on my side; however I'm sceptical about this.
I just checked out the metadata for one of my albums that is having problems, and the album title tag is the same on all files. The only things that change over the different files are the artist, track number, and song title.
Huh. Yeah, it might be a metadata problem then. Most people over there seemed to agree it did the trick
I went over all of the albums I was having problems with, and makes sure that all the tags were OK. The albums not affected by the problem had all the tags the problematic ones were having. Both problematic and non-problematic albums have ID3v1 and ID3v2.3 tags.
Even after uninstalling the Zune software and removing everything in the Application Data directory, the problem still happens.
If it helps at all, an example of how I tag my music is below. Please point out if I've tagged my music incorrectly, or missed any required tags out.
Ok, so just updated and all that jazz and my art and stuff is messed up along with artists and albums. I tired and tired to look for those files on my XP system but it is showing me nothing..I can't find the LocalSettingsApplication to do anything with fixing the media collection. It is starting to drive me insane! Please help!
This seems to be working for me. One thing I noticed was that most of the album art was correct on my 30gb zune, just incorrect in the zune software. Odd I think, but it is MS, so it does make sense..............
