Default Mp3 Files Not Showing up in Library

OMg Help. I started to organize my music. I used Music Brainz to re-tag many of my old Ripped CD's. The program works decent and I have about 4 gigs of music properly tagged now.

I removed all files from the zune library then added the new directory of sorted music names.

Nothing very little of my music is showing up now, I only see like 1/8th of all my songs. What gives! Why is the zune software not picking up my files! This is no good as it appears I just destroyed a good chunk of my music collection. but wait! They are still on my computer all nice and sorted. Is there a way I can force a refresh of the library? I have setting to add files previously deleted from library.

Please help!

You can try to use the Monitor Folder option to do this for you. Go to the Options menu at the top left of the Zune software and select Library --> More Options. Click on the Monitor Folders... button. Select Add Files Previously Deleted From Library and deselect Don't Add Songs From A Duplicate Media Library. Ensure the new folder is one of the monitored folders and then click Ok.

It should now scan the new folder and pick up all of the MP3s. Once finished, you can toggle those options back to whatever it is that you want.

If they still do not show up, you may want to make sure the files actually have an .mp3 extension. When doing some batch renaming in the past, I had inadvertantly removed the "." in the file name so they didn't have a valid extension. You can see this easily by viewing them in Windows File Explorer. If the file doesn't have an icon that shows it is associated with your default mp3 player -- my default is Zune so the Zune icon appears for all -- then the file is not being viewed as an .mp3.

Hope this helps.

This is exactly what I am doing. All files still have the MP3 extention. But only a handful of mp3's now show up in the Zune Software. This is depressing I guess I will not be able to add music to my zune ever again no wonder they are selling so cheap...

Can the files that are not showing up be played by the Zune software? You might try this...

Go to Options and set the option for adding a file to the library when added to the playlist. Open Windows File Explorer and select all (or a few for a test) of the files that are not showing up. Either right-click and select Play (if your default player is the Zune) or drag them to the Playlist window in the Zune software.

Now that they are in the playlist window, they should be added to your library.

This is a bit drastic but you might also try...

Remove all monitored directories. The default ripping directory cannot be removed. Everything should drop out of your library. If not, select delete but don't delete from your hard drive. Plug in the device and sync. This will set a baseline.

Add back in a single monitored directory and let it search. Select those same options for adding deleted files and files from another library. If the files are still not showing up, I would be leaning towards reinstalling the Zune software and letting it rebuild your library from scratch. This is also a bit drastic but much better than not being able to get new content on the device.

You may also want to make sure the files are not flagged to be skipped in the Sync Results report. That can be found in the navigation node named for your device in the Zune software.

You lost me on the last part. about the Sync Results Report. I'm afraid to sync my zune since it has almost everything on it just not organized.

However it seems that I found the problem. Appears to be a software bug. My setup is like this:

E:\mp3\Artist\Album name\mp3's

It appears the zune software is not capable of handeling nested directories properly. Almost similar to a pathlength issue I have had in other poorly developed software. I'm thinking that if the path length is too long it does not find the music files or perhaps something else is screwing it up and preventing it from parsing through nested folders. I don't know what else it could possibly be.

If for exmple I add the mp3 folder to monitored folders it pull some stuff...
E:\mp3. It pulls one of my Aquabats CD's and some misc songs from other sub directories.

However if I explicitly add ever folder inside the mp3\Aquabats\* then the files show up. A real inconvienience since everytime I go to add a folder it takes me back to root and not the directory where I left off....But It does find them if I manualy add eacha nd every directory rather than just adding my root mp3 folder.

Hmm. Nested directories work fine for me. I've got mine set up the same way. I used MusicBrainz too (love it!).

Unless you'd like to go through a bunch of debugging, I'd recommend uninstalling the software with Unzoone and then installing it again.

It is. In fact, the zune software is basically a modified WMP11.

Be forewarned, WMP11 isn't meant to sync with the Zune. You'll have to use the zSuite to do it: http://www.zuneboards.com/forums/com...uite-zune.html

Media Player 11 seems to have the same bug

I think eventualy all the music will show up if I wait long enough.

However I found that dragging the music folder into WMP11 rather than adding it to the "Monitor Folders" makes it show up right away (Most of the time, WMP11 is still a bit Buggy but much nicer interface than WMP10).

Dragging the folder to the zune software does not seem to do anything. So Ithere must be some difference from WMP11. Monitor Folders sucks if it does not scan the requested folder right away. That is really stupid.

I tried to install zSuite at home and it does not display the key. it displayed the key at work though a last week when I tried. Guess I will have to find the key at work on Vista and bring it home to get it to work on XP....

So for now, untill I can install teh hacks I am not able to sync my zune to upload the new music.

Just 7 days until the new software is released.
It's completely rebuilt from scratch...

Yep. The software has generally been accepted as the Zune's biggest weakness so hopefully MS will buck up and deliver the goods.

Ok well I got all my music on there, problem now is that alot of it i son there TWICE!

I tried to delete the files in Win Exp as well as the zune software and I'm getting a permission denied. LOL So now I have everything on there twice.

Also when the files are transfered to the zune, the Contributing Artist becomes the new Artist. WTF!

Zune might be updating your metadata info. On one of the tabs of the option menu, you can disable this.

I just said screw it and re-formatted it....

Going to try again from home. Well it has certainly been entertaining, just not in the right sort of way. Couple weeks and I still can not properly transfer to the zune or even play music from zune program at home...

At least now I know that it is changing Contributing artist to artist on the zune. I dunno why it would do that its REALLY REALLY stupid. You organize everything to look right and then it changes it to something else as it transfers! Nice...
