Default Thinking about starting my own zune site...

Well, i'm considering creating my own zune site, but being that I don't know much about that sorta thing, I have some questions. First off, the site would be a blog basically, with links to things such as the forums. Just to test things out, I created a blog with wordpress: Zune Live . This is just to test some things out, and here are my questions:

1. Even though wordpress hosts the blog, I still need some sort of webhosting right? To get my URL and everything... Whats a good site to host from?

2. How would I add forums?

3. Wordpress allows different styles for the blog, and I rather like the one I chose, but it won't let me even put a banner on it.. What should I do about that?

Thanks in advance, and I'm sure I'll have more question that I ask later.

1. Yes, You need a webhost. Most that ive been looking at (im also interested in a domain). thatll cost ya a little bit of money.

2. Most places will let you install phpBB or vbulletin or something on it. Theres a wordpress plugin that lets you add pages that link to other places.

3. wordpress.com is severely crippled, they want you to pay for everything. If you get a domain, youll also have to get the real wordpress, which is completely un-crippled and you can do anything you want.

1. Yes, but there are plenty of free webhosts. Currently, I'm using zymic for two different websites I've created (see Matthew Vita and Welcome to the C.E.R.T.A website!). You can get free domains from CO.CC - Free Domain name registration + Free DNS service. and other sites such as openDNS

2. phpBB is a free software that's pretty decent for forums. If you go with phpBB, you might want to look into beefing up the security of it. I added a plugin that adds a human question to the registration and haven't gotten a bot signup since.

3.If you look through the files of the theme, you should be able to modify anything, really, as long as you keep the theme creator's info on it.

Also, if wordpress is hosting the blog, you won't need to worry about 1 and 2, as it will only be a blog. *HOWEVER* if you just downloaded wordpress's software for use on your own server, than you'll need to set up everything using mySQL and you'll need your own web host for that stuff.

I don't know if you're saying this is a new discovery, or what, but I mentioned in my post that I'm currently hosting 2 websites from zymic.

Hey Red, ive actually been looking for a new web hosting service, the one i use, freehostia, it really sucks ass. would you possibly do a small little review on your opinion about zymic? how good is it? how much hosting do you get for a free account? also is there a free option? can you host files such as mp3, rar, zip, exe? (freehostia doesnt allow them, not even zips) how much uptime is it?

sorry for bumping an old thread i just REALLY need a new webhosting service.

Well, let's see...

Zymic has a very decent uptime. My sites are generally accessible to everyone, though there are downtimes, as are there at any free hosting site. I know that .mp3 files aren't allowed, and I would imagine that video clips and .zips probably aren't as well, I'm not too sure about that. They allow for custom domains and have decent hosting for the free people. I think they offer 6000mb of disk space and 50 gigs of bandwidth. They let you access your site via ftp and they have php/mySQL (up to 5 databases). There are no ads on the free websites, which is a plus. Personally, it's one of the best free hosts I've ever used, and I've used a ton.

i have had it with freehostia, it is the worst site ive EVER used.

i will give my review on the experience of Zymic in a few days, once i get an experience lol.
