Default Smoking

So I'm a hardcore smoker. I picked the habit up at around 13 because i thought it was cool and here I am at the age of 25 still smoking.... a pack and a half a day. I've tried a number of time to quit and I always fail. When I was in the Marines, they offered a free Smoking Cessation class where they gave you free patches and prescriptions for zyban... I lasted about 6 hours before I wanted to rip someone's face from their skull. I'm thinking about trying to quit again just because it's just getting too damn expensive.

Anyone else a smoker/ex-smoker?

I have another sister who started smoking around my now age of 19 cause mama kicked her out of the house....She liked smoking Newports and they smelled good but she said she would kill me if I told her again that they smelled good or if I took up the habbit of smoking. She had decided to quit by taking these new quitting smoking pills I forgot what it was called but the medicine was on tv commercials warning people about being suicidal and stuff. But she became suicidal and stuff and freaking me out so I told her to stop taking that ****. I dont know if she quit those pills or not but all I know now is that she is somewhere in Florida on some stupid ass random vacation so I just hope she isn't anymore deeper in debt.
Just be carefull when quiting cigarettes.

Started at 13? Woah.

Go see a Doctor and tell him/her you really want to quit, and say what you have already tried.

I know what pills you're talking about. My grandpa's wife used the pills to quit smoking and she said they worked wonderfully. My problems is that I HATE taking pills in the first place. When they gave me the Zyban I only used a couple of them which might be the contribution factor as to why I wasn't able to quit. I'm at the point where I'm thinking about taking a two week vacation from work and just going quiting cold turkey.

I've been to a doctor before and he suggested hypnosis. I don't see that happeneing.

My physics teacher told me she was giving up smoking. She told me she is taking a new medic which is a pill too, but apparently it works very well. Instead of just trying to mess your mind up, it actually keeps the nicotine outside (I don't really get how it works yet), thus make you smoke not by addiction but just by habit. I don't remember the name, though.

I know you hate taking pills, but I just wanted to leave a trace.
Cheer up ! You can do it.

wow... man... I'm sorry 'bout the whole addiction thing. My dad smokes, and my gpa gave 'em cold turkey. But I hope you quit.

I've smoked one cigarette in my life. I thought it was okay. I was like ......eh.....I don't know, I might do it again, but I won't get addicted. I know that much.
I had my first one when i turned 18, which was Feb 26 of this year.

im a smoker too, but a pack lasts me 3-4 days. i should probably just quit, it shouldnt be that difficult.
the problem is that i like the flavour of them on top of the effects, thats why i havent quit yet.

How many flavors are there? Are there a whole lot or is there a limited choice? A big selection like flavors of gum or nothing at all?

well to a non-smoker the differences in flavour are barely noticeable, if noticeable at all...
to most people smokes taste bad.
a common misconception is that Light cigarettes have less tar/nicotine/etc but it really just means light flavour. here we have light, smooth, medium, full flavours but you can also get "cigarillos" which are flavoured cigarettes. cherry, vanilla, mint, strawberry, rum, grape and more. the store down the street from my house has over a dozen flavours of "Primetimes" which are a specific brand of cigarillos.

smoking is bad though, it's expensive and bad for your health.

Not a fan of smoking at all to be honest... I hate cigarettes with a passion. I've smoked out of a hookah recently (for those who don't know what that is, it's pretty much a water pipe. The shisha [herbal tobacco without nicotine or tar] is placed on top, then a hot coal on top. The smoke then lowers into the water to cool, then up into the smoke chamber where it is inhaled through a hose of sorts), and just thought... what's the big deal? It was Apple flavored shisha which did nothing but make me thirsty...

Yeah, be careful with that. That was the same attitude I had when I started. Honestly there's no point in picking up if you aren't already a smoker. It's one of the dumbest things you can do...

I hate cigarettes with a passion as well. I used to think people who smoked were just dumb, but I was corrected. No one in my family smokes, except my grandfather who I rarely ever see, so I was never around it too much. But then, someone compared smoking to bad eating habits. I eat junk food all the time even though I know that it's really bad for me. The fact that I don't gain weight from it is probably why it doesn't bother me. It's all addictive in a way, though. Anyway, good luck in your endeavor to stop .

My great grandmother is still alive and continues to use Snuff.
She is a great woman but she gave me some snuff and it just tasted like a paper bag.
I bet you granddaddy is a good man too.

Yeah. He's one of the people who kind of explained smoking to me. It's just another thing that people do and have a hard time quitting. I'd rather do something semi-productive like eating, though. Smoking just rots you out. We talked about the 'Bodies' exhibit in Biology one day. My teacher went whenever it was in Atlanta and he said they had a pair of lungs on display that belonged to an avid smoker. He said it was one of the nastiest things he'd ever seen (and he's seen a lot with all of the jobs he's had). There was supposedly a box for those who had viewed the exhibit and wanted to discard any cigarettes that they had on them.

My father smokes, I know he's tried to quit, but I'm not very in touch with him, so I don't know if he's still smoking, or what he's tried.

Why even do it again? It's a physical addiction, you can't really control whether or not you get addicted, no matter how much you tell yourself you won't, the only way to know you won't get addicted is not to smoke in the first place.

Smoking is something I'll never pick up. My grandfather smoked.. a lot, and though he's been dead for about nine years now (liver cancer, I believe it was), his constant hacking and coughing still haunts me.

My mum's been smoking since before I remember. Though she quit once she got pregnant with my brother, and she'd been doing really well, she got back into it this last September. It really upsets me every time I see her light up.
