Default My dad lost his job...

It's pretty depressing. The company lost a contract to someone else, which was the one he was working on. Anyone ever had this happen to them? He says his last day is actually February 29, and he'll be looking for another. Since he's 58, and makes $36 per hour, he doubts he'll be able to get another one. He plans to sell stocks and such to maintain money.

Anyone know how to comfort me during this? It's pretty scary. .Even though it probably won't be THAT bad if we get poorer..

I could sell my Zune....

not like selling your stuff can help your dad, his talking about at least $3000-$4000 per month.. just hope your dad can find a good job back but probably max pay will be $20-$30 per hour.

Well right now, he says he's comfortable with the money. So I feel better. It's just that he doesn't want to feel worthful, so in money we're ok. I'd only sell the 30 if I got the 80, and despite the money my parents always say they're poor, so I don't know about that..

That really sucks. And it'll be hard for him to find another job because he's so close to the retirement age. Most companies won't hire someone who would be up for retirement in under 10 years. However, depending on his profession he might could do some free lance stuff. And selling stocks is hardly a bad way to make money if you know what you're doing.

I feel bad for you, hopefully he will find another. This happened to be last year, but my dad was able to get another job within a week. Good Luck.

Sorry to hear that. You've had it rough lately

Coming from a fellow Nathan, I can say my sympathies are with you.

All parents say they're poor. That's what happens when rich people are idolized. Dw though, they're not.

well, on the brightside, he has some notice, some people can just be fired with no warning. He's got till the end of the month to find a job, then he go on unemployment and that usually lasts a while, so long as you prove that you're looking for a job.
