Default Missing storage space on 4G

I just purchased a refurb Zune 4G from Newegg, and I suspect it is has defective flash memory. When I look at the device parameters within the Zune software, I see the following: my music 409.94MB, reserve space 64.4MB, free space 3.14GB, for a grand total of 3.61GB. Unless there are 400MB of user-hidden memory used by my Zune, I seem to have a defective device. Can someone confirm my suspicion, or that Zune needs this memory for some internal purpose? It seems hardly worth returning and paying the UPS for a $50 device, just to get back 10% of the storage space, but at least I want to know what I have here.

Thanks,

FD

Default

Thats exactly what it should be. When a company advertises the size of a hard drive they use 1 KB = 1000 bytes and 1MB = 1000 KB. However, in reality, software defines 1KB as 1024 bytes and 1 MB as 1024 KB. So the Zune is measuring it correctly. If you calculate the number of bytes 3.61 GB is using 1 GB = 1024 * 1024 * 1024 bytes, it will be 4 billion bytes
