Strange issue with Zune 4 gig

I recently sold my old Zune (the one in question) to buy the Zune HD, and everything was great until he moved to college. Once he got there...his Zune wouldn't dock with his PC in the Zune software. I thought this was so since I was planning on visiting him soon, I decided to leave earlier as to help him because I could imagine his suffering w/ no portable music. So i took my laptop out (where the Zune was originally docked) and it connected to mine with no problem...but it refuses to connect to any USB port on his desktop. So i had him unzoone and remove the drivers and such from his computer. Then we installed the Zune software again hoping to get it work and still no go. So today while on my break at college I called him up and told him to do a hard boot of the zune and do the fore mentioned steps. I had him press and hold up and back and then center press while pressing play/on. The zune erased everything as it should and i was hoping to get the the drivers in the zune to reresh...yet again....nothing. can someone give me/him a hand. I've done all o the basic steps like i mentioned above...if there is anything i need to do let me know. thanks
