I recently got a new computer with XP prof. and after I installed the zune software i keep getting this apparently common error. I've tried different USB ports, no luck, I know my cables are fine because it works on my old computer, I've tried copying the zune.inf file, no luck. Ive browsed several of these online forums but every solution has no avail... I've replaced the wpdmtp.inf file, ive even downloaded the recommended zunedevice.exe tool....nothing...I'm a ballroom dance teacher with over 60,000 pieces of music I need to put on this player...I need it working....NOW...pleeeez help...

try reinstalling the zune driver (from device manager) although at this point, it may just be easier to wait for 4.0 tomorrow.

Is Ver 4.0 supposed to fix this problem?

It should, considering that your problem sounds like it's based on one of the files, and the update will probably replace all of the old files.
