Default Is my Zune's battery toast?

My 80GB Zune is giving me some serious problems. If I leave it sit for a while the battery is completely drained and after I plug it in for a little while it keeps going between the startup screen and the big battery charging icon. Once that goes away the little green battery indicator comes on but the Zune immediately dies once I unplug the USB cable. Is it time to crack it open and put in a new battery? Or is maybe something wrong with something else? I've tried completely reformatting and it didn't seem to help things.

It's weird, my Zune 30 used to have this problem where the battery hardly lasted 30 minutes, and it would discharge itself almost overnight. But after a few recharge/discharge cycles everything regulated itself and it's working fine again. I don't know what to tell you, but if you keep having the same problems you may have to get a new battery.

UPDATE: After searching around I noticed other people were having this same problem so maybe this will help.

I ordered a new battery from Rapid Repair and set to work changing it. Getting the Zune open was extremely difficult and the shiny plastic covering the screws put up one heck of a fight. It took a delicate balance of force and finesse to get it open without breaking anything. But once it was apart the soldering was very easy. I was worried that since it's a pretty small device the area in which I would have to work would be quite cramped but that wasn't the case. I tacked on the 4 wires, snapped the Zune back together, and bingo! She's working like new, and for a lot less than sending it in for a repair.

Difficulty of repair: 4 out of 5
Time: about an hour
