Zune wont charge or be recognized!

My 4gb Zune V2 will not charge when plugged in to my laptop. I have tried all four USB ports, and it currently has no battery so I cant do a reset. When I plug the Zune in, it starts up but the charge icon flashes on and off. I turned the sound on on my laptop, and I heard the 'hardware disconnected' sound repeatedly. My zune doesnt want to reset when I start it up while plugged in eithier. The zune software won't reinstall, because it says I can't connect to Microsoft. HELP

Try getting a wall adapter and using that. That won't care if MS doesn't want to connect. Then you can see what's actually wrong once you've got a full charge, be it a reset, a wipe, or what have you.

I just reinstalled zune software (connected to microsoft) and now it charges for about 40 seconds and then it stops. Never recognized by software.

Again, your best option is to get a full charge on the thing, and then diagnosing the problem will be easier. Alternately, try updating your USB drivers; to see if they need it, run Windows Update "Custom," not "Express" and then just look for hardware updates.

Thanks for your help. I got a full charge but it was a huge pain. Every 5 min. or so I had to update the zune drivers to keep it charging. I dont know why that is. I believe the problem is with my Windows.
