Exclamation Zune 80GB screen cracked!

Alright, so I'll admit I'm just a touch abusive with my MP3 players sometimes. I had a Creative Zen Vision: M and it busted rather badly in my pocket - the LCD was literally cracked. Outer plastic shell was fine, though! Pretty nasty, eh? Unfortunately, it's physical damage, so my Best Buy warranty doesn't cover it. Luckily, for Christmas, my parents got me a Zune 80GB! YAAAY.

Er. Last month, it was in my pocket (FOR FIVE MINUTES. AS I WALKED FROM ONE ROOM TO THE OTHER. With the headphones... and I don't exactly wear tight clothes!) and I hear this "CRACK."

Pull out the Zune... Oh, scheisse. The outer screen cracked - the cover, not the LCD itself. Here's how it looks - notice that the LCD itself is still working; the only real damage is the outer cover of the screen. Please pardon the dirtiness of my Zune!

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I might be able to do? When I called the Zune support line last month, the guy sounded like he was out-of-country. When I explained the problem, he told me that his support center couldn't fix the damage under warranty, but that some of the service centers would. Thoughts?

Yeah, just call them up and say the touchpad won't work.
They most likely will think that you're right, and send it in.

So how the hell did it break?
There is NO WAY that it just broke when you put it in your pocket and walked from one room to another.
What did you do to it?

Honest to goodness, I had it in my pocket with the headphones and walked around for maybe ten minutes.

The guy I talked to on the phone said that if they saw the cracked screen they'll just send it back.

I say try it anyway,
Worst thing that could POSSIBLY happen is you send it in and they send it back.
I give it a 50% chance they give you a new one.
More if you yell at them for making "bad products that don't hold up against everyday wear and tear."

Ahh. Good idea.

I may hand it over to my mother to do - she's good at that 'getting really angry at representatives' thing.

I just hate to even part with it for as long as it takes to ship... ** sigh.

When I bought it at Circuit City, I got it with the full 3-year or whatever SUPER ULTRA DUPER REPLACEMENT PLAN which basically covers, well... everything. But it cost me $70 or so, on top of the basic cost of the Zune, so I really don't want to bring it in and use the replacement plan, since the player still actually works, it's just not aesthetically pleasing (and may eventually actually break open).

Hi,

I have the same problem, except my screen somehow cracked after I came back into my room to find my younger brothers wrestling on my bed...which is next to the Zune, on the floor. I suspect someone stepped on it.

Does the default Warranty cover the screen? Is there any good repairshop I can send it in to to fix, most desirably cheaply?

Thanks,
sc

Ain't gonna work. Sorry. I had sent in my Zune 80 with broken glass, with just one fine, barely visible crack, not as badly busted as this one, and they just sent it back.
