I'm starting to wonder what the point is of having an 80g Zune when there aren't any movies or TV shows available to purchase in the Zune Marketplace. Does anyone know if there's a way of getting video purchased from iTunes or Amazon Unbox into the Zune. I know there's software that can convert physical DVDs but is there anything comparable for digital video downloads?

If you buy movies from Amazon unbox, I believe you can run them through tunebite.

There are converters to convert video files in different formats to WMV or MP4 format for your Zune 80. I've heard that the "Unbox" videos from Amazon.com are protected so you can't unencrypt them for file conversion. If you have basic video files in AVI, MP4, or MPG2 format you should be able to convert them to WMV format using some freely available tools. You can check out my web blog (link below) for details on how I convert my video files to WMV format.

I basically want to be able to play videos downloads I have paid for - so if Amazon Unbox is out of bounds the other place I buy from is Itunes but presumably that's dubject to the same restrictions? In which case, I'm back to square one i guess which is that there is no mainstream video available to buy and play on a zune. is that the long and hort of it do you think??

Well one thing you can try is veohtv. Veoh is like an upgraded youtube. Just make a veoh account then download veohtv. Then you are able to download vids from veoh.com and put them on your zune, like movies, episodes, funny weird stuff, etc... that people have uploaded on to veoh.com. Some of the vids are in the wrong format for the zune so your going to have to convert them but either way free vids with great quality.

Nah, that's mostly clips. It's so weird that Zune has an 80g Video player with no material available to watch and Apple has tons of great material and only a 16g Ipod Touch to play it on. I think maybe i will take the Zune back and get the Ipod Touch because i really don't need 80g just for music. shame because I hate iTunes and the way they take over your world and the Zune is great in every other way. If I thought Zune Marketplace was going to get a decent video catalog up soon....but no sign of it.

I tried cucusoft but it doesn't work with DRM-protected files. Tunebite removes the DRM AND does the conversion as far as I can gather. Has anyone actually used it for Amazon Unbox or iTunes video??

I remember trying it once, I think it was skippy because the computer I was using it on was junk. Check the requirements on the tunebite website.

In addition, I am sure microsoft will be offering tv programming and movies via marketplace in the not too distant future. This seems obvious as it supports their corporate strategy to offer downloadable/streaming digital content (to xbox 360 and now zunes).

While I can understand your frustration currently, if you are patient I am confident you will have all the content you desire shortly. In the meantime, the conversion software output can fill some of that 80 gigs of space

Thumbs up video downloads

well folks, I can report that the tunetribe software DOES work with Amazon Unbox and it's pretty straight-forward to use as well. Only problem is the amount of time it takes to sync the video to the Zune. roll on Zune Marketplace getting its act together on video! Thanks everyone for chipping in with the tips.
