Default Comment on a harddrive issue.

Jackluo said "The zune first loads 40 mb of media into the flash chip. This takes about 5 seconds max and the harddrive will be turned off after it's done transfering the 40MB of data.

For the next 20 minutes, your zune will play music or media from the flash chip. "

If this is the case what am I hearing just before EVERY MP3 starts to play? Whrrrrr beep beep. It's faint but audible in the phones. I assumed that it was the HDD spinning up & seeking (although I don't hear the "click" of the drive), but maybe it's decoder noise. If it is maybe it can be fixed in F/W? That would be wonderful.

Try doing a Hard Reset, there is nothing we can do at this point to edit the firmware.

i believe it IS the harddrive. when you listen to a CD player it makes the same exact noise

Well, I was hoping for a F/W solution, but I will wait for the problem to be confirmed fixed & exchange the unit. (extended warranty) I think it's a bit quieter on this second unit though.

Yeah sounds like the HD -- I agree with recommending a HD reset.

That's only true if the songs are played through a playlist, an album, an artist, shuffle. Usually, playing another song randomly from another artist or album will cause the zune's hdd to spin up which decrease the battery life dramatically.

Zune cannot predict which songs you choose thus cannot preload the random songs you chose into its flash memory.
