My first zune got dust under the screen because the glass was crooked so I sent it in and they sent me back a new one and a slip case (how nice)
I've noticed something with this one that i didn't notice with my last one. I charge the zune up fully, and then while it is off(technically sleeping I guess, by pressing and holding play) the battery will drain very quickly, much quicker than it seems like it should, quicker than my iPod.
To put this into perspective, I had my zune 80 charged fully at about 5pm. I listened to it on the way to my GFs house and back which was probably 1 hour of runtime. I'm positive I put it to sleep while I wasn't using it, and hold was on. When I turned it on just now it has only half battery. If I charge it to 100% then leave it sleeping, the battery will be dead the next day.
I don't think it's a bad battery because I tried calibrating the battery to fix the problem, and it lasted for many hours playing music with the screen on always at full brightness.
I know I can fully turn the zune off by holding play and down, but thats a little more of a hassle. I didn't have to do that with my iPod. I feel like something has to be wrong with it.
I did a little poking around(google) and I think I've found the problem. Apparently some zunes have a problem entering sleep mode, causing ludicrous battery drain while "off."
It sounds like exactly the problem I'm having. There are suggested fixes on these sites so i'm gonna give that a try and see if it works.
well, I heard a lot about this battery problem, but I don't see this on both of my Zune's (80GB & 8GB) at all. I ALWAY only hold down the "Play" button and the Zune's turn off....... Sometimes I don't use one of them for a week or so but when I then turn it on, the battery still shows fully charged and maintains the charge for about 15 - 20 hours playing until it drains.
Since the hardware manufacturing process is the same for every Zune, I do believe it's the battery. Probably a faulty batch of the battery manufacturer. That's my only explanation.
I have NEVER used the TOTAL shutdown ( Key Combinations ) to shut down my Zune's, only used the "Play" button and it works fine !!
Still strange to hear all this "battery draining" issues.

but... if you leave it sleeping.. sometime.. itself my do a complete shut down to save battery.. like when i leave it sleep for more than 2 days.. it goes to shut down mode.. and when i boot it back up.. its on zune logo to boot... mainly.. no matter what it drains your battery.

I also recommend the combination buttons to fully turn off your zune -- it seems as though some of the hard drive zunes do not enter sleep mode and the HD runs down the battery.
Im stationed in Germany in the army and I have the same problem, i contacted microsoft and they made me send the zune to my dad in the states, then they sent him a "special box" to put the zune in, he sent it to them, they sent it back and now he has to send it to me. aparently everyone has this problem with their zune
