Heh. If I do get some B.A. headphones and they don't work, you won't want this thing. That is my only complaint, this awful sound quality. I just tried plugging the speakers into the Zune and the Prem. Heaphones into the speakers. Perfect quality there. Damn, I won't be that great of an audio tech if I've been done in by a portable media device. Guess I'll just go play with my copy of Reason....
Maybe I will call Microsoft. I hate dealing with that kinda thing, but whatever it takes to work. I don't want to go with 70 percent market holding iPods.
yeah, I know what you mean, I think you should tell them about your Zune, and hell, you never know. They might send you a new one, it's definitely worth a shot you know?

Yes kids, referral link spam abuse is a terrifying thing. Come here to learn how you can get help.
I just got done trying out some different things. Went down to my basement and grabbed another set of speakers, as well as some realllyyy old earbuds.
Same issue. Sounds great on these speakers as well, like utter crap on the phones. So, I decided to try a 'trick'.
First, I used the Zune Prem. Phones. Plugged them into my zune, began to play a song, then, I took the out ever so slightly, to the point where they barely register. (aka when they play very softly out of one ear). The sound quality, though soft and only in one ear, was what I was expecting; everything was how it should sound, just quite. I pushed them all the way in again and they immediatly began to produce the all instrument sound and soft vocals that where the issue before.
To see if it was just the Zune Phones, I tried the RCA, the Panasonic, and the crappy old buds that dont have a model on them. Same. Same quality, same sound, same results.
Now you're getting somewhere! I recommend a call to MS now, with that explanation. It seems that there is a problem with the headphone jack on your Zune, though it still doesn't explain why it only affects headphones, not speakers. The plug size is the same on all of them (including the car cassette adapter as well) 1/8" inch (or 3.5 mm). Still having this information, and your troubleshooting, will give the MS people a big head start helping you sort it out.
Still strange, but at least it makes a bit more sense. I bet you're pretty frustrated, but this has to help a little.
The ignorance of everybody on this forum is evident. Get some QUALITY Sennheiser headphones (not the cheap 3-pack kind). You will never regret it.

Hmmmmm.... Harddrive causing problems with the headphone jack? Sadly it does not detail anything else. I'm going to keep hunting. Anyone know the number I call for support?
(Edit: forgot if i said before; but the preloaded content sounds fine on any pair of headphones.)
(Edit, again) I think I'll just return my zune at wal mart and ask for a replacement or something, and that should get rid of my problem, right? I do not want to f*** with customer service and then sending it away and all that when this zune is only 4 days out of the box.

Well, if you can return it, or exchange it, that may very well be the best or easiest) course of action.
Your edit in the last post mentioning that the headphones worked fine on the preloaded material just threw me for another loop..... After reading that, I'm beyond lost. Take it back, and get another. That one seems possessed.

Yeah, ghosts and stuff began flying out of it. But yes, I took it back to Walmart, and asked for a replacement. Took them 45 mins to walk back and get me a new one, and I wound up being slightly late for work, but, and this is the great part.
It works GREAT! I am now very happy! I love the Zune now, and am very pleased with the purchase.
Here's to futuar zuning for me!
Cheeres, and thanks for the advice guys, even if it wound up getting replaced.
The problem might be a bent pin for the 3.5mm audio jack. The old speaker's 3.5mm jack might be a little bit bent or a little bit bigger thus making a good connection. Anyways... getting a new zune is better.
