Software deleting files from device

Ok, so I spent two days ripping somewhere around 60 CDs from my collection to put on my Zune 80. I finally finished today, synced everything, disconnected my Zune and enjoyed my labor of love. I went a head and deleted the music I had ripped from my laptop since I'm short on space.

Later on in the evening I realized I forgot to rip/sync a particular CD, so I ripped it, hooked up my Zune and went about the business of syncing the new music. Much to my dismay the Zune software started deleting all of the files I had previously synced today because they were no longer in my collection.

Why? And how can I stop this from happening again?

I bought my Zune for the sole purpose of being able to enjoy my very large CD collection everywhere I went. There's no possible way I can keep 2000+ CDs worth of music on my piddly laptop just so whenever I feel the need to upload new music to my Zune, it won't delete what was already on it.

I called the Zune help line, did everything they told me to, but it's still happening. I have all of my sync options set to "let me choose", but still when I connect my device, it starts syncing automatically and removes music on it's own.

I have a ton of music on an external drive which I've linked to the Zune software and even when it's not connected to my laptop it still registers as being in the collection and doesn't remove those files, so what gives?

Please help, I didn't spend $250 to deal with this kinda stuff :'(

ok, the reason why all your music got deleted off your zune is that it has auto sync on, and the zune software is monitoring all your files, if they monitor your files, and they notice your songs are deleted, they'll delete it off the zune also. in the Zune software, go to Settings, collection, and then remove all the monitor files on all section, then drag and drop all the music back into the zune software, and resync it with your zune again. hope that helps

yes, the zune software is dumb like that. that's why I always connect as a guest now to prevent this from happening. what runtohell suggested should work as well.

Thanks runtohell121, if only the Zune support person would have told me that in the first place.

One questions though, how do I get it to stop auto syncing? Now for some reason my Zune is adding music on it's own.

Sorry for the incredibly stupid question, I'm so confused - until yesterday everything was working fine, now it's all gone to hell.

You go to Settings > Device > Sync Options I think. There it will say

Automatically sync all music/video/pictures
I'll choose what to sync

Put all the choices to "Let me choose what to sync" and it will work.

Ok, well it's still not working. Whenever I delete the files from my computer, even though the folder isn't monitored by the Zune software, it still removes the deleted files from the device when I sync.

What difference does logging in as a guest make? Will my song plays not upload to my Zune card or something?

i have the same problem and it makes me so mad....i hate it so much!!!

i did what they said to...did u drag and drop the file there or just add another folder using the software? (where it monitered the files)..if u dont drag and drop, it wont work.

Just set your Zune to guest mode.

Settings>Device> Forget This Device

I've been dragging and dropping, following runtohell121's advice, but after testing to see if when I delete the music from the folder it was in, the next time I sync, it still deletes my music :-\

Yes, someone else (and the Zune support lady) told me I could do this, but I'm wondering what difference it makes when I am not logged in.
