I got a strange message when I plugged in my dead Zune to charge today:
This is the first time I've seen that message and am kind of stumped. The specs of my machine are listed below
Mobo Abit AN-M2 GeForce 7025
CPU AMD Athlon 64 X2 4000+ Brisbane 2.1Ghz
HD Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 250GB/Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 160GB
Optical Drive Lite-On LH-20A1L-06 DVD burner
RAM G.Skill DDR2 800 Dual channel 2GB (2 x 1GB)
GPU MSI RX800XT PCIe
Audio Creative SoundBlaster X-Fi xTreme Audio
PSU Hiper Type-R 580 watts
Case Lian Li PC-7SB w/Window
Monitor Samsung SyncMaster 914V
OS Vista Home Premium
I've had my Zune for about a week or two now and I haven't done anything different tonight than any other night when I charged it. The only difference is tonight it was completely dead when I connected it.
Anyone else ever get a message like this and what did you do about it? I don't have anything besides USB 2.0 on my computer so i'm not sure what it wants me to do. Should I just chalk it up to being dead or what?
well, not sure what caused your problem, but I just would uninstall the USB hubs and reboot the computer so it can re-detect your USB ports. I never worked with an Abit MoBo and AMD, so I can't say anything about that. Something must cause Vista to see your USB ports a version 1.1 and not as 2.0 !!! I'd get in touch with Abit first !!!
hmm... go to start, righ click on my computer, properties, go to device manager.
uninstall all of the usb ports, and let it reinstall it for you, or if i dont reinstall, click on the computer thingy on the top bar which will detect missing things.

well, without the usb 2.0, the transfer data will be a lot more slower than usual. yes you can just use it as is right now, the software should still find the zune, but the transfer rate will be slow.

yeah i got that message when I had old USB ports on my comp. I bought a USB 2.0 card for $15 and that was fixed. but if this is the first time you are getting this message, i am stumped.

USB root hub isn't a hub that you can unplug and plug or switch, unless you want to take out the root hub chip on your motherboad. Also a usb 2.0 isn't always highspeed. There's a 12mbit/s version (fullspeed) and a 480mbit/s version(highspeed). They're both usb 2.0.
I would suggest plug the zune in the back of your computer. If that doesn't work, you don't need to uplug it. Simply press the "scan for hardware changes" and the computer can re-evaluate your zune again to see what type of USB it is. I believe F+5 is the shortcut if you're too lazy to find the button. The 2nd image in this thead will show you where that button is.
k.. whatever you say.. i'll just say that its being faulty for a while.. i had it before on most of my computers, when they tell your it can be perform faster on higher usb port, just unplug it, replug it in another usb port or just keep replugging in same one..

wow, I have no idea what you're talking about. is anything different? i mean, can you still open up the software?
LOL. Nah, everything is fine, charged up fine, Synced find, everything is normal except for that box that popped up. I'm not gonna lose any sleep over it though, everything is working fine, just curious is any of you had experienced this.
GAH!!! its not an error to start of with it an advice popup
you machine is just telling you that you have plugged your zune into a device that is either running an USB1.1 or into say a port that is connected via something that draws its power from a USB port like a keyboard with USB slots.
You dont need to fix anything as nothing is broken.
your PC is telling you that you can get faster transfer speeds from one of the ports listed (usually in the back of your PC or on an external powered hub)
no offense guy but you should really know what your talking about before you go giving advise for people to remove drivers or uninstall hardware
what would have happened if this guy was using a USB mouse and keyboard and you told him to uninstall all his USB drivers?!

I never said it was an error message. All the USB ports on my computer are USB 2.0, I don't have 1.0 USB ports anywhere on this machine. I've been plugging it in the same exact spot for the past week or two since I had the Zune and this was the first time this message ever came up
I'm not gonna fix anything, you might want to try reading the thread before you go poppin' off at the mouth. I'm saying that based on your pompous attitude in telling someone that they don't know what they're talking about in the advice they gave me.
