Question are the premium headphones this bad?

I got the zune 80. I love the hardware, hate the software. But that's another story.

Anyways I like how the premium headphones look and I like the nylon and the magnetic backs...But is it supposed to sound THIS BAD? I mean they sound so crappy that I'm wondering if I just got a defective one.

Its definitely worse than the iPod's stock buds, Its easily recognizable with even the crappiest of mp3 bitrates. no bass at ALL; they sound like the treble has been put to the maximum. and mind you, I'm not an audiophile by any means.

did I get a defective pair?

I found the premium headphones excellent, if they're that bad there might be something wrong with them. Make sure they aren't getting clogged or in a bad place in your ear (clogged with earwax or pushed too far in will make the sound bad)

The premium ear buds that I got with my Zune 80 sound good to me. The only issue I have, is that the cloth wiring has a stethoscope effect when they rub against each other and I can hear it thru the ear buds.

Try replacing the in-ear inserts with one of of the other sets the Zune came with. I found that the thickest one's provide the most effective bass.

Mine sound great! Make sure you have the earphone cord pushed all the way into the Zune... if not, they don't sound so good. Don't ask me how I know this. : p

When you put the earbuds in make sure you sort of angle them upwards towards your ear canal, also make sure they are pushed in as far as is comfortable.
You must create an good seal against the skin of your ear canal or the bass will not sound too good. The treble will over ride everything if the buds are not angled properly.

They are a stark contrast to normal bud earphones in that they are quite 'toppy' but has anyone got any freq. responses for them and what hardware they actually are internally?

You must have gotten a bad pair cause mine sound great. The bass isn't ground shaking but it's definitely noticeable. Just buy some decent aftermarket one's and call it a day.

The sound Quality is Amazing. they come with a couple of the peices that you put in your ear. did you happen to put in the size that fit your ear the best? the only problem i had with them is that the cord came out of the cloth. i can't seem to get it back in.

I found the quality of sound to be amazing. The overall design and fitting was kind of bad in my opinion. Not bad though.

pushing them in would probably make the bass sound louder, and really muddy. If it sounds like there's no bass, then he probably doesn't have them in right. Or they're defective.

ive heard you need the earphones to be completely in your ear and for the foam part to form a tight fit around your ear holes. i've tried these and they sound much better than the regulars

Damn.. I thought mine were just crap, I just tried using the largest inserts, and the "up into you ear canal" thing, and now I see that they actually are good. Lol. Awesomeness. Not bad for $10, eh?
