After repeated issues with my Zune's power being drained regardless of whether or not it was being used, I finally found the correct fix. First, you have to completely drain the battery. To do this, let the power drain until you see the little plug icon in the center of the screen. At that point, keep turning it on until it simply will not show anything anymore. Once this is done, plug in your Zune to charge for a minimum of twelve hours. Once this is done, reconnect your Zune to your computer and reinstall the latest firmware update. This corrected a power issue I had been dealing with for upwards of three months. A few weeks after I completed this fix, I was talking to someone at Target who was about to buy an Ipod because of the power issues he had with his Zune 30. I told him about this fix, and got an email from him two days later thanking me profusely. Try this if you are having issues, it seems to work exceptionally well.

what keys do I push for a "hard reset" and what does that mean exactly? Will existing music be deleted? Does the firmware need to be loaded again?
Thanks for your help.

Spread the rep. If someone has helped you or they really deserve it or did a good job on something, click the button under their name. Or if you are using the new skin click the button in the top right hand corner of their post.

I finally succeeded in re-installing the latest update. Have also resynced all the files from my PC, but not all the album pictures are shown on the Zune, although they are shown on the Zune browser, as if they were on my Zune - appreciate any input you might be able to give here.
PS: I'll get back to you about whether or not my battery performance is better after the update
