just like the subject says. i have gotten to the part in the Zune software setup to where it asks me to restart my computer, i do, but upon restarting, i stare at a black screen forever, then i unplug the zune and press the restart button then i can get to windows, but then it wont sync.
any ideas? ive tried the other method of editing my registry to get the zune to display as a removeable drive, but it still wont work, and i realized i still need to sync in order for that to work. could this just be a defective zune? |

Something went wrong in the installation. Try uninstalling the software using this utility: http://damagedgenius.com/removeit/?page_id=20
After the uninstallation, try installing it again. But this time, try using the software downloaded from www.Zune.net

Looks like the computer is having trouble loading the installation/setup program.
Did you remove the Zune folder (in the Programs folder within your HD) and anything that was left behind after you uninstalled the first version? I don't think its the Zune. If you've monkeyed with the registry, you could have accidentally changed something there. Go back and double check yourself. lpxxfaintxx - does that program also remove the information from the registry? It could be something in the registry that is causing the installation/setup program from functioning. |

yeaaaaah. i actually just got back from the store with a new one, now it wont even complete the installation, it goes maybe 10% into it and says "installation error." the end. and ive been using that Zune removal program. duduudududude. its never going to work dammit. what should i check for in the registry? i tried that thing where you can see it in the windows explorer instead of the zune thing, thats the only thing relating to Zune and my registry that i have changed, change it back? maybe its my computer. but its newer, so i dont know man... |

Kill the anti-virus program. That could very well be thinking the Zune software is a threat. It does attempt to make several internet connections. My Anti-Virus software didn't like the Zune software in the beginning.

Try calling the Zune tech support... they probably know more than us.

Right click "My Computer", click "Properties", "Hardware", "Device Manger". Look for "Portable Devices" and click, then right click on "Zune" and uninstall it. You might need to reboot, then try installing the software. Don't plug the Zune in until you are prompted to by the software. Edit.... You could also search the registry for any Zune entries, and delete them before reinstalling, but just deleting the device should be enough. |
