Albums appearing twice in the Zune software

Does anyone have this problem with albums appearing twice when you are browsing under 'albums'. I know its some sort of problem because there is only one album displayed(as it should be) when I browse by artist. Is this a bug?

My zune doesn't seem to do that... Try resetting your zune, by holding onto the back button and the top button.

I have a few Artist that appear twice.

The reason for this is that there are two artist fields in Zune.

Artist, and Album Artist. If these two entries are different, or one is missing, the album will show up two times.

The *easier* solution is while viewing the complete album, right click on the artist name (next to the album cover), click edit, don't change anything and hit enter. This will fill in both Artist and Album Artist.

The other option is to right click each file, go to edit track info, click Artist Info and Copy/Paste Arist into the Album Artist field.

Similar problem here... I thought I would exercise that two-week pass and downloaded Oasis' greatest hits album/CD which was thirteen tracks. Somehow, it ended up being eighteen with many of them having the same description and track number. Couldn't figure out why so I deleted them all.

Ok. The situation is that much of the content downloaded from the Zune service is in error. That is, my situation with the Oasis "Stop The Clocks" CD had varying tags. That is, some of them had the genre "Rock/Metal" (which is wrong anyway) and others had nothing at all. In addition, the track numbering was screwed-up. At this point, you would be insane to use the Zune service to purchase music. Having to purchase music and correct all the tagging is unacceptable.

Your best bet is to run your MP3's through iTunes. Once you get everything setup perfectly (tags), copy them on a DVD and dump them into the "My Music" folder.

Currently, Zune requires a ton of hand-holding. It is high-maintenance and will hose your library of music if your not extremely careful.

I have been dragging-and-dropping album art from Amazon's music into my Zune library.

Update: Re-downloaded the Oasis album:

18 songs
12 have Rock/Metal tagged as genre
06 have no tagging for genre
Track numbers are screwed-up

Make sure you spell the artists name the same way on each song or they will show as 2 different artists.

Ctrl-C then Ctrl-P will become your best friend when using the Zune software to update your album information manually.
Even the slightest error in the information will place a single song in a whole new album (even if it could fit in one of the other already listed ones).

Not to throw a wrench in the conversation but what about when the album shows up correctly in the software but NOT on the Zune itself? I have fixed the tags over and over again but I still have a lot of tracks split up into two albums for some unknown reason, and it is absolutely driving me crazy. It always splits up into two albums, but I have yet to have a double in the artist category.

Any help/moral support is welcome.

your not the only one man .
its done that with me also.
what i usually do is just delete the album from the zune and check the library album..make sure everythings right and sync it.

sometimes theres only so much you can do, before you feel like pulling your hair.

I'm hoping that a fix will be included in the next software patch. I talked to multiple people with Zune support and kept getting "I've never heard of that issue" or "Check your tags". Sometimes I miss my old clunky IRiver.
