Default Album Art

Hi everybody...stumbled upon this site thanx to the greatness that is google...

Quick question: I'm not seeing any album art on the device. I've spent at least 20 hours the past couple of weeks since I got the zune trying to get every single album showing art (just letters a-d!), and while they do show on the Zune Software, not one single album cover shows on the Zune itself. I synced about 4 gigs of music and not ONE single song showed its pretty cover!

I was hoping some of you may have had the same experience or (better yet) had a solution/suggestion to help a brotha out. Much obliged!

I've found that after several synces over several days, the album arts is eventually updated. I don't think the Zune checks the software for new album art every time it syncs.

Mine has trouble picking up the album art too, but I've found a way to get around the problem. If the album art isn't showing up on songs you already have on your device, go into the Zune program and change the star rating to the songs. This makes the Zune update the song info, including album art. Works every time for me. It's kind of a pain to have to do this though, and I hope they fix this bug pretty soon.

Can you just click the star its already set on, or do you actually have to make it higher or lower rated?

Thanks for the replies everybody. Unfortunately, nothing seems to be working for me. However, i haven't tried the star-rating thing as of yet. I called their help line and (naturally) knew more about the device than the poor guy helping me. They gave me a reference number and said they'd "research it" over the next 48 hours, and that I should call them back. We'll see what happens.

Leaving the zune plugged in w/the software open (and recognizing the device) will let it be updated right? Thanks

I'm having this problem as well. All of my album art shows up in the software, but never on the device itself. What makes it especially annoying is that I added most of the album art in Media Player 11, which is obviously what the Zune software is based on. You'd think it would just funking work.

I've ripped 210 of my records so far. Many of them have no album art in the online database (I have a lot of limited release stuff, as well as 12" vinyl). Frustrating to spend all that time adding art only to have it not show up.

I've erased the device and re-sync'ed several times. No dice. Even the art that the software is able to find automatically doesn't make it over to the Zune.

As I said before, mine was like this for a few days after I bought the device. The Zune device from what I've read doesn't check for new art during every sync.

One trick that might fix the problem is, go to the "Options" menu, select the Sync submenu, from there there should be a place on the menu with the title of your Zune device, select that menu, then finally from there select "Start Sync".

I've noticed that when I use that start sync button as apposed to the other, that it syncs everything.
Maybe it's just me, and it really doesn't do anything differently.

Anyways, it tooks about four days for all my album art to appeare on my Zune.
Give it time kiddies. :-D

Seems kind of wonky that it would take multiple syncs to send 200 tiny JPeGs to the device, when it only takes a few hours to convert and load 26 gigs of WMAs.

I'm pretty sure I've done the auto-sync and had the same results as I did manually sync-ing. No art. Nada. I haven't seen a single album cover on the device aside from what shipped with it.

I love the hardware and firmware, but man, this software seems broken.

Yo balistic i think we just have faulty devices man. I'm gonna call the zune tech support (they said 48 hours...) and confirm that they know nothing, and then go ahead and return the sucker for a new one. The pains of being an early adopter...

I would ask to speak with their superior first.
The man I was pushed off on (one of the dudes superiors) was really helpful, and I could actually understand what he was saying.
He knew quite a bit.
His name was Francis. You could try asking for him. :-/

I called support last night and confirmed that the bug causing no album art to appear on the player is a known issue that they are working on. I'll give 'em a month or two, but album art was a big part of the reason I wanted a Zune in the first place.

Do you guys think that Best Buy would allow me to exchange the one I have for a non-buggy one?

I think it's a software bug, not a hardware bug.
Just hold out for a while.

EDIT: I would imagine they would update the Zune software before updating the firmware. :-/

RYS

when u say after several syncs do u mean removing stuff youve put on already and syncing again? or just connecting ur zune and maybe syncing new stuff?

does anyone know?

im up to my second zune thinking it was a defect, but im still having trouble with album art.

Default RE: Album Art

It's not a defect, I'm telling you.

I had the problem you are all having, and after syncing about six times (over a six day period) all of my album art was updated and working.

Basically what I did was chose the album info by right clicking on the album/song(s) and then selecting their correct information.
Sometimes I found that it would not add the album art to the songs, so then I would repeate this step. I would usually go throught thirty or fifty songs like this. No biggie.

One thing I do remember doing...When I added the album info to a song, I would usually wait till I had at least thirty songs to Sync. I would Sync them, then check if their album art was showing no the Zune. If not I would find the songs with the problem on my compturer, perform the album info search again (even if it was correctly showing on my computer) and then resync the songs, *when* I went to sync new music onto my device.

Swaping your devices out will not fix the problem. Supposedly it is a software "bug", and like I said in my previous post, Microsoft will likely release a Zune software update *before* the Zune firmware.

Mods, this thread is becoming silly, we've established this is a known bug, perhaps you could close the thread now.
