zune wont sync

my sync cable is fine as far as i can tell, it charges the player and windows see's the device. i even plugged it into all of the usb ports on both pc's [ front and bacl ] and still no luck.

i'm having issues getting ,y zune to sync with my pc. i installed the software and it goes ok upto the point of connecting the zune to the pc. i plug it in and windows xp pro see's it and installs the drivers for it and says new hardware ready to use but the zune doesnt see it. i then skip to the config part of setup and finish it. inside the zune software it doesnt see the hardware at all. i tried it on 2 different pc's runnin xp pro and still the same issues zune software cant find the hardware although the os see's the hardware. i also noticed that during the download their was a firmware update and by finding out on this site too. but no setup file is included to install the firmware.
ps i have the v1.0 firmware
basically right now windows xp pro sees the hardware, but the software doesnt. i like to find a way to flash the firmware so i can see if that fixes my issue.

You can't flash it until you have it hooked up. Have you tried downloading the software? Your CD might b courrpt

like i9 said the zune software cant see the zune hardware at all, but the os see's it.

Um, the software won't recognize your Zune without a ZuneTag, so at least make sure you've given it a tag. If you skipped any steps while installing the software, uninstall it, then reinstall it and follow EVERY step.

i already have a live id set and the software still doesnt see it. i just got a second zune today and it's having the same issues as the other one zune software cant see the zune hardware. but xp sees it and says its ready to use. does the zune need 2 be fully charged to be able to sync? i have tried almost every usb port [frontback] all my ports are 2.0 . the device on screen say "conected" but i cant send files to it. i have a few more pcs in house i can try....

Try a different USB port. If you are using a front port, try a rear port. It makes a difference on my computer for some reason....

that wont matter, cause all are 2.0. i tried it on my mom's pc its a xp1800+ and the software see's it their and syncs. but on my 2 pc in my room one is new core2duo, dg965wh new stuff other is a nforce2 & xp2500+ and both dont see the hardware in the software

It mattered on my 2.0 system.

It works on your Mom's computer, which tells me it works period. Problem lies within your computer systems.

I've figured out through other hardware forums why this might matter. Have you ever read how some device manuals state not to hook the device to a hub? It's due to voltage and current requirements. Hubs and some Mobo's front ports can't support the needs of devices such as these, therefore the back ports that are mounted directly on the mobo are generally the most stable and at times the only ports that will work.

I had this same issue with my RAZR cell phone, it wouldn't work through the front ports, only the rear. Even though my MOMO Forced feedback steering wheel, Saitek joystick and camcorder all work flawlessly on the front USB2.0 ports. The later devices don't require any actual current to operate as they have their own power sources, but the RAZR and Zune require extra resources for charging purposes, which can cause them to not register properly in the software, even though Windows acknowledges the device.

or not compatible with the mobo. the front ports are mounted to the mainboard via a cable.
i use the front to sync my htc wizzard from tmobile and works ok

I am having the exact same issue. Installed fine. Its listed in the devices but zune software won't recognize it. It says "connect a zune device" on the right hand panel above where you would put your list of songs to sync. I can't figure it out. Its driving me crazy. My daughter's installed and sync'd fine on her laptop. She is coming over today. I just don't know why it won't recognize it. I've done the front/back usb's blah blah blah, done it all. Called tech support, Im at level 3, they told me call back in a few days, they are working on it, alot of people are having the same issue.

One other thing you can possibly try if your device is not being seen by the software but is by the OS, try registering zunesp.dll.

1. Disconnect device
2. Close zune software
3. open command prompt (start -> run -> cmd)
4. CD program fileszune
5. regsvr32 zunesp.dll
6. Open zune software
7. connect device

Two weeks ago I downloaded some music to the device, then I deleted the files from the library and the computer (too little space). Today I decided to load back the same music (to put it on my girlfriend's new Zune), and I couldnt load half of the songs, because of some "Error" under the Status bar. The songs are all mp3's, nothing unusual. Any ideas why this happened?
