HELP!? Mysterious Black Installation Screen Of Doom?

Hi, after years of not having any intrest in getting a personal mp3 player, i decided id finally buy one since im going to be in china for the next year.

I went with the zune after alot of study, and i really like how it looks feels and works (i feel the ipod wheel thing is super overrated, i like actually having buttons) i bought mine four days ago now, and while the hardware seems fine, the software is working for ****. ive looked around a bunch on the internet but didn't notice anyone else with my problem so i thought maybe someone here could help.

when i first put in the software cd, everything starts smoothly, but after the instilation completes, (this pic http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.en...oftware_07.jpg or the 7th pic down on this guide http://www.engadget.com/2006/11/13/i...e-zune-sucked/)

the instillation screen goes all black, with three black buttons on the bottom. It becomes immobile and unclickable, and the only way to get out is to force quit. At this point i notice that zune and the zune icon are in the list of start menu programs, and when i click that, the zune player (on the pc) loads up, seemingly normal, but after a second, the black box pops up, and then i cant click on anything in the zune player, and am again forced to quit out via ctl-alt-del.

I connected the zune at this point, it installs software of somekind (doesnt say) Ive uninstalled, reinstalled, downloaded the installer from the website, dont just about everything i can think of 3 diffrent ways. Has anyone else had this problem or have a solution?

its super frustrating, i finally broke down and got an mp3 players and its been four days and like 8 hours and i still dont have one song or movie on it.

its made even more frustrating since i had used my brothers ipod 2 weeks back to see how it felt, and it installed perfect and everything worked well. I kind of hate apple. but this experiance is really souring me to microsoft.
i want to love my zune. someone mentioned zunes great, you just have to get over some inital growing pains? has this been peoples experiance as well

did you try the 64 bit thing from the front page... they say it works alot better because of different areas or something to that nature...
that's the only possible hint i can give you...

I have the same problem with the black screen and three buttons that locks up the program, but it only happens when I connect the device; otherwise the software works properly.

PS: this only happens on my PC, not my laptop

or well its good to know im not the only one.
mine happens whens the device is connected and when its not. so all the time. and i dont have a labtop. >_< so basically i have a little slick radio player.

two weeks out from buying my zune and i still cant even get a single mp3 on it.

I have the same problem but I don't even have a Zune (I'm using the program for the media sharing with my Xbox 360). One thing to note is that I did have it working for one day (by copying and pasting the entire zune folder to a different drive and running from there) but when I went to use it the next day, I get this black window again, with the unusable, blank buttons. If you do push tab a couple times the buttons however do get highlighted, still cannot do anything though.

try the stripped down installer with out all the eye candy same thing just without the pics link...

Also, you could try going into the registry and disabling the 'first run' popup. That sounds like what the probem is...

Yea, that sounds suspiciously like the problem, but, how would I go about disabling the first run pop-up? I'm far from tech savvy.

I have the same exact problem first i had an error when i was installing it (it would only show a brown screen) i used the speedy installer and now it does this if anyone could help me please i have 16 gigs of music and videos on this computer and i would like to put them on the zune so give me some help

Just go on and call zune support i got this problem fixed in 2 seconds i swear its quick 1-877-GET-ZUNE (438-9863) Just call em
