Default Zune 30 not charging

Hey folks-

Having some issues with my Zune 30.

The battery is dead, but when I plug it in, it will start charging enough so it can power on, and it will stop. I've tried two transfer cables, and the FM Transmitter from MS, and it does the same thing.

Also, the software isn't recognizing the unit when it's plugged in.

It hasn't had any shocks, I haven't dropped it, I've tried both reboots (plain, and the type where you wipe the memory) and nothing is working.

Any advice, or do I just have to start saving for a 120?

Since it's a Zune 30, I'm assuming it's several years old. Since you've tried a few cables already, my next suggestion would be to look at the battery itself as the possible culprit.

If your willing to spend around $10 US on fleaBay, and a little time to learn how to do a bit of Zune surgery, it could be worth it. It may not be the problem, keep in mind.

Trust me, that is my next step. I think my wife found some around 7-8 with free shipping. Not a lot, used to spend more than that a week on smokes, but still, every dollar counts...

The only reason I'm nervous about that is how my software doesn't even recognize the Zune being plugged in.

Does anyone know if that could just be because of the battery?

That's the only reason why I'm not 100% sure it's the battery. I'm not sure how the Zune reacts when it has a bad battery and you plug it into your PC.

I know that, on old iPods I had, you could not connect it to your PC unless the battery had a certain percentage of juice in it.

The PC doesn't recognize the Zune until it's out of the "low battery stage", right? I don't think it does.

Since the Zune stops charging itself the culprit is the battery of the Zune. Just make sure you know how to properly open your Zune or you could break it forever.

Now good night all. It is 3:30 in the morning here haha

Just letting you all know that I haven't come for an answer and ran. I'm just waiting for my next check to order the battery, and then when it gets installed, I'll let you all know what's up.

Yeah, like you really care and are hanging on the edges of your seats but I figure that if you're going to offer me advice, I'm at least going to show I appreciate it and let you know the outcome.

Thanks!
Tony

You may have snapped off a part of the connector. If you did...you're effed. That's what I did with my 30.

Geez, I hope not. I guess we'll find out early next week. I guess my wife ordered the battery for me Thursday night on eBay, so we'll see how this goes.
