Default Zune 30gb Brown STILL FROZEN
I have tried every step out there including "soft resetting" and plugging it up somewhere else and charging it (my PS3).
What the hell Microsoft?

I am having the same problem. It locked when everyone else's did, I didn't touch it at all yesterday, I followed the instructions, but no change

I am too pissed. Ive tried eveything even the hard reset
I get wiped everything of it even the firmware when i try on install the firmware i get not a enough space on disk? wtf? Screw MS, Ipod here i come

Why not just let the battery die. Once you get the ! mark, then plug it in a pc set to the year 2010 to charge. while it charges, open the zune soft to get the date stuff synced. In the end, once charged, try again.

I tried to avoid technical talk with the intentions that it might just help you out.

k mines effd up too! tried hard reset, reformat....the whole deal. nothings working

But, im gonna keep it just cause im against apple and i love my zune...

Ahhh!!! MINes is still frozen I tried everything and it still doesnt work its still freezes and Its already January 3 and it still dosent want to work wth?!?!

Follow these steps:


Disconnect your Zune from USB and AC power sources.
Because the player is frozen, its battery will drain—this is good. Wait until the battery is empty and the screen goes black. this might take a couple of hours.
Wait until after noon on (that's 7 a.m. Eastern or 4 a.m. Pacific time).
Connect your Zune to either a USB port on the back or your comp.
or ac charger
Once the battery has sufficient power, the player should start normally

anyway==.... if all that didnt work leave off of charger for the whole day!! then wake up at 7am and plug your zune in!! no earlier no later...let it charge til 12;30 noon!! it should then be workiing!!

repeat steps if not working..

I just called Zune support. They said Microsoft is aware that the recommended solution did not fix all the Zune 30GB. They are working on a new fix and will have it by "next week."

I'm in the same situation... kudos to everyone having the same problem for having the nerves of steel...

I''m considering the ipod classic now... been a zune user for so long and this crap is really bad for the morale...

mine three zune 30 gb never had that problem. everybodys zune 30 went down

My zune loads up fine (also brown 30) but the keypad (up/down & left/right) buttons don't work. Just center button and side buttons! :| I'm so pissed off!!!

Did you check date settings on pc? Maybe it has issues with that, or maybe the date on yoru zune was not set properly if that can be an issue!

Default My Zune 30 - finally unfrozen !!!
It is 6-Jan and my Zune is finally unfrozen and happily resyncing my glorious music!

Here's what I did:

For about the 10th time I opened the case up and disconnected the battery.

This time, I left the battery disconnected for 2-3 minutes (instead of a few seconds).

As soon as I reconnected the battery, I flipped the Zune over and hit BACK+CENTER+RIGHT buttons. I did this as the white horizontal line was building across the bottom of the screen.

This time instead of freezing like it has every other time I tried something...it opened the the correct screen showing Music, Video, Podcasts, radio...etc.

Then I close dthe case up, connected the screws, plugged it in to my PC and my data started resyncing.

I don't know if this will work for everyone who is still haveing the frozen-zune problem, but it worked for me.

I almost think that there might be several different fixes that might work on different Zunes - anything to jar the boot process past the infinit loop it encounters when calculating the date.
