DEC 31 4:00am EST.

Too much of a coincidence to be user related.

Something to do with previous update?
Something to do with year change?

Add me to the list. I had synced some music. Shut the computer went to bed to listen to it and discovered it was frozen at the 'splash screen'. I'm not sure the fact that everyone's is doing this is reassuring or not.

The software is fine. I'm using it to listen to music right now.
It's just the Zune itself that's bricked.

nope i unplugged after uploading three songs 10 min after unplug it froze and a little while after that zune closed i reopened and it said it dumped everything its probably just my comp though it sux :/

why is everyone saying "brick'd"? its not brick'd yet, there is no official press release or anything lol, just use the term, "broke'd"

You do realize that it's only Dec 31....it's not even 2009 yet, so why is this happening...

wow i can't believe this actually happened. mine did the same thing tonight when i tried to turn it on in my car while it was plugged into the cigarette adapter. since it happened to everyone at the exact same time, I can only assume it's some terrible software glitch? or portents the end of the world.

Just got up at about 1:02 am and was about to listen to some Car Talk on my 30GB 1st Gen Zune. Totally froze just like all of the other people in this thread. The odd thing is, that this is a refurbished one (rebuilt) because my first one died under warranty. I tried the hard reset, and all of the button combos, but none of them work. I didn't have my device connected to my computer when this happened. Hopefully Microsquish will figure out what happened, I don't want to have to go through stupid tech support again.
