I let the battery drain over night, plugged it into my computer today at 1:30PM EST, when the battery was charged enough to power on it did...AND FROZE!!!
Mine has recovered from the plague, and it's now charging. It's not really acting right, though. The backlight comes on, it goes off, then it comes back on, repeat. My Zune software's also not recognizing it (and earlier the USB plugging and unplugging sounds were playing repeatedly).
Follow the instructions if you have owned your Zune more than 1 year (Your warranty is expired anyways, so don't worry about that). If you bought it NEW less than a year ago, you will be voiding your warranty.
Also, if you follow the instructions and it doesn't fix your Zune 30... Then do the following: After you plug the battery cable back in, hold the Back, Left, and Center(ok) buttons at the same time as its starting up. This will REFORMAT YOUR ZUNE. Its a last resort... but you can always resync with your PC. You have to be very quick with pushing the buttons or you will have to unplug/replug the battery again and be quicker. Just follow the instructions on the screen. Also... you Zune must have a little bit of a charge to make it to the step of plugging it back into your computer after you start the reformatting process.
So mine now boots, but it is only recognizing about 4GB out of the 29GB of music i had on it. And to top it off, my NAS died this week so the only copies of these songs I have are on the ZUNE.
ok, so I';ve read through all the replies, and everyone seems to have the same problem I had. Somehow I managed to do a hard reset, completely wiping out the firmware even. I am currently running Windows 7 as my main OS, and the Zune software installed just fine, without a hitch. Now, when I connected my Zune to the computer, it tries to install the firmware again, and it gets stuck at 25% then I get an error code C00D11CD, which I guess is an unknown error. Has anyone else gotten to this stage and get into the same issue that I'm having? I'm sure the OS has nothing to do with it, because the software runs perfectly fine. Any suggestions?

My Zune didn't freeze until last night (after syncing I believe). That's kind of odd seeing how today is 2nd and the bug was from the 31st or 1st with Zunes supposedly not getting effected after 7AM EST on the 1st or something like that. Anyways, I'm trying that "let the battery" die thing and will see what happens after. lol

I get the same thing as well at 25% I run vista
so its not the OS although you are running windows 7 beta FYI
LOL, I JUST noticed that my Zune was somehow locked causing it to look like it
was frozen on the music, videos, pictures, social, etc. screen. It's working fine now.
Duncan, thanks for the tip that you have to be really quick in depressing the three reset buttons once the battery is connected. it got me up and running again. i had been trying this technique for a number of days but with no success. guess i wasn't quick enough. you supplied info, insight, and empathy which is more than i can say for a number of so called moderator experts who throw out terms like "just soft-reset". not everyone is a tech head. additionally many of the users on this site are brand new and only here given the recent event of the 30gb failure -- myself included.
Thanks DuncanIdahoTPF, for posting that vid. I woke up to find my Zune stuck like everyone else, just 2 weeks late. I guess my Zune procrastinates as much as I do :p Only took about 2 minutes to fix though, yay!
