Trouble with Zune 3.0 update on 1st Gen Zune

I am running Windows XP Home Edition with SP3 and couldnt get the software update succesfully, The installer complained of missing "Image Mastering API V2" IMAPI 2 in the system - but I found its actually part of SP3.

Now I laptop wouldnt recognize the device and cant sync songs (

Any insight and hack techniques to get around this problem is greatly appreciated!
