Default [SOLVED] Suspect 3.0 firmware for 30gb

O.K. I got this thing two weeks ago, new condition, purchased late 07 but unused. Given to me as a wedding gift.

It didn't have a cable with it so I borrowed one from a friend. Downloaded the software and connected. I loaded the software and downloaded the "newer" firmware. I think it was 2.5. I loaded 12 gigs on it and used the box for nearly 50 hours all together in two weeks.

I got my new cables in wednesday, brought this thing home and connected it. IT hit me with the new firware, V3.0. I had made some revisions to my playlists so it loaded the new firmware and synced. I let it charge all night. Yesterday, it played all morning. I noticed some of my albums had doubles of the songs. It also at one point, mixed my two playlists, and then corrected them after I switched between them a few times.

Yesterday afternoon this thing shuts itself down while in my pocket. I pulled it out, restarted it and made it another 5 songs or so, and does it again. I laid it on my toolbox thinking the battery was dead. (although it shouldn't have been)

Last night, I worked on clearing videos and pictures from the device. (it loaded ALL my media on the first go-round) It took FOREVER. It wouldn't delete the folders. IT finally did kill them off though. I took it to bed and plugged it into my wall charger and listened for a little while. When I got done, it wouldn't do a soft shutdown. Not knowing anything else to do, I just left it, figuring it had a wall source and would be fine. It played thourough everything last night and shut itself off, i guess due to inactivity. I took it to work this morning and it won't start up. It does the initial bootup, loads the menu and background, and then shuts down. With it off a cable, it will load the firware over and over again, but not the background. I can feel the harddrive click right before it restarts.

All my stuff is still there though. When I got home, I plugged it to the comp, it loaded to the menu and stopped. Then, before I could select anything, it went to a screen that says connected and will not come off of it until the cable is removed, and then it starts the reboot sequence again. I did a hard restart with it connected to the computer, and it let me make it so far as to look at my songs, but when I tried to play one, it went back to the background and says "connected".

-I've learned how to do a restart. Has no affect.
-Device status says 18gig free on main status page, but only 11 gigs free when viewing device music.

I need to know how to go back to the 2.5 firmware if you can provide me a link to the instructions.

I don't think the harddrive has taken a dump, it's still too functional and the was very abrupt and in correlation to the firmware.

Anything is helpful.
Kyle

Default Well #$%^%$%#$#$^@#$&

I did a "clear zune" last night and left it to sync over night and checked it this morning. I did a hard shutdown and now all it will do is reboot the firmware over and over..... I'm going backwards, not forward.

Now i'm somewhat convinced the HDD is fubar-ed. it's doing that click at the end of each boot like a hdd thats shot it's wad.

Wonder what it costs to have one fixed?

It's the battery. Evidently being in storage for almost a year didn't do the battery any justice. after deep cycling the battery twice it laid down (only logical explaination)

I found SEVERAL posts from ealry 07 about batteries, one being dead on exactly what my zune has done. I'm going to score one from ebay shortly.

I did manage to disassemble and remove the battery. I move the leads on the board so that it would have a new contact area and tried to boot up. It won't do it on it's own, but it will when connected to the computer. The hard drive is in tact and functioning.
