battery problems?!? plz help

my zune 30 is constantly "shutting off" randomly, its in quotes because i can see some backlight on it and it also displays some sort of colored lines across the screen. after the backlight is turned off and everything is pitch black, i press the play button and the battery is drained. it also overheats...is this a battery problem of some sort?

i waited awhile til it gets cooler and then recharge however same results. also tried the reset deal however it goes to the "shutting off" thing it does.
plz help!!
