Default Hold Switch is broken-help?

I've been trying to use my Zune, but I can't get it to do anything. On the screen the padlock icon is there, saying that the hold is on, but no matter how much I move the hold switch, the hold won't go off. Does anyone know what might be the problem? I even removed the back of the Zune and moved the hold switch that is inside the Zune case, but it still won't work.

Do you mean the switch itself is stuck or the device isn't recognizing that the switch is moved?

If you still have your warranty, I'd call 1-877-GET-ZUNE.
They'll get you set up and you'll get a replacement.

I'm pretty sure that if it was still under warranty, I voided it when I opened it up and replaced the screen. Anything else I can do?

I have the same exact problem here with my black Zune 30. The hold/lock switch has always seemed a bit flimsy, and over time I've noticed that my Zune would sometimes refuse to start unless I flipped the unlock switch a few times. Even then, sometimes after starting up, it would show the padlock symbol, be unresponsive, and act as if it was locked, even if the switch was in the unlock position.

It's getting so bad lately, that I have to flip the switch back and forth until the Zune powers up, and do it again multiple times until it registers it being unlocked. I pretty much don't use the lock anymore, as if I don't lock it in the first place, I don't usually have this problem, although it does happen.

I've had my Zune for a year now, so I don't think I'm covered by the warranty either. I'm fairly good with electronics, but I've never actually bothered to take apart the Zune, though I am familiar with a few guides out there.

BorisLibero, did you frequently use the lock before, especially for long periods like I did? I'd often listen to my Zune, then lock it before going to bed (after a complete back + down shutdown), leaving it overnight as locked.

Well my Zune screen had broke over a year ago, and I wasn't able to replace it until recently, so it was dead and locked for nearly a year. It never had this problem when it was working before, and no matter how long I sit there and switch it back and forth it still won't go off. When I first replaced the screen, it seemed fine because it tried to turn on when I pressed the Play button, but since it was dead it just flashed the battery symbol, once I charged it is when it stopped working. I even switched the motherboard & hard drive with a different one, but it was still like that.
