zune software is killing me (literally)

every time the software crashes i die a little bit inside.

it just freezes. ive tried scouring the net for an old copy but no good.
when i first installed it took its sweet time to scan my folders while being unresponsive. then when that was done it just froze. ive uninstalled/reinstalled 3 times and man am i frustrated. the hardware is so nice. software and support from MS is garbage. (wish they gave me an ipod) ive turned off the video something or other option and plugged the zune into a usb port directly to my MB. nothing. i launch the app with the zune unplugged and i can use it but its very laggy and when i plug in the zune it freezes. dosent say its doing anything...

pc specs:
AsRock K8-upgrade1689 motherboard
1 gig kingston PC3200 ram
AMD Athlon 64 3700+ (soc 754)
Nvidia GeForce 6800GT OC
500gig seagate HDD
Windows XP Pro SP3

and

Zune 30 (white)

im out of ideas and out of patience. please give me some options.

What version of the .NET Framework do you have installed?

Well it seems that your problem has something to do with windows, make sure that you have all the updates, also I would recomend going and gettting the .Net framework packages http://www.microsoft.com/net/DownloadPrevious.aspx3.0 is your best bet.

Also 3.5 which you could get
http://www.microsoft.com/net/DownloadCurrent.aspx

you might just want to go ahead and grab the 3.5, but its newer and may pose more problems, I got it a couple weeks ago and am fine with all my apps.

Could you give us a picture of the freeze, or is it just a regular, everything looks fine, but I can't do anything freeze?

Also, have you tried to uninstall it with the UnZoon (something like that) tool and reinstalling it after that?

Lastly, how did you install it in the first place? Was it from the disc or from the installer from the site?

It seems to like to lock up for me, too. Usually if I just leave it for a few minutes, it will just unfreeze for a bit before freezing again. This happens mostly to me while I'm in the middle of syncing. Can you ever start it syncing? And if so, does the Zune itself say "Syncing" or "Connected," or does it go to the main menu?
